Just saw the previous posts regarding Mindstretcher and Learning Point. I guess parents can complain to the respective centres, right? I did not know that Learning Point selects only top-scoring students. If it is true, it's a ridiculous practice. I wouldn't send my child for tuition if he or she is already scoring 80% at tests.

:offtopic: I hope that MOE can establish some rules and give accreditation to qualified tutors. I realise that we tend to believe the big lies and half-truths told by some tuition centres (e.g. those claiming to have qualifications that don't exist, or those taking in students who were already scoring A's and then claiming that most of their students score distinctions at PSLE, etc.), but are instead more skeptical about private tutors. If MOE can regulate the industry, parents can feel reassured. It will also help private tutors, who may not have the resources to \"market\" themselves. Some centres are very good at advertising, but I feel that we should put the focus back into teaching, rather than marketing or packaging.

With all due respect to the centres, I think they should be more transparent in sharing about the students they take in. If all their students were already potential distinction students before tuition, the percentage of distinctions at the national exams should be close to 100% and not 70-80%, as I have seen at some centres.

I have withdrawn both DS from MS gradually since last year. Perhaps it depends on individual but both DS did not benefit much attending their lessons (Bishan).

Some of the teachers do the worksheets in class and do not assign additional hw. When they go thru the answers, they asked the students to copy the correct answers from the board but not much explanation. That's the feedback from my then P3 & P5 DSs.

I like their worksheets questions though. Hwr, as my DS did not improve from their lessons, I withdrew them and put them in private tuition instead.

I have a friend whose DD used to attend MS (woodlands) and her results maintained in the 70s (scored high 23+ in PSLE). Her DD enjoyed their lessons that's was why I enrolled DS in MS but quite disappointed overall.

Maths - yes, my DD did not improve. same problem, copy teh answer from the board or projector.
Science-I find it very good. I totally washed my hands now.

True, thats exactly what happened to my child too. 3 year there, no improvement on Math, she loved the science but teacher very arrogant & tell me off as I highlighted some issue (she forgot I am still their customer). The centre managers, they are in denials & could not solve problems

True, thats exactly what happened to my child too. Math , kept copying answer, dunno the rational on the steps. They teach chim chim method, but the child catch no ball :imcool: . 3 year there, no improvement on Math, she loved science(she originally love science) but teacher very arrogant & tell me off as I highlighted some issue (she forgot I am still their customer), my child look forward to lab classes but as you progress the lab decreases, it kills the child's enthusiasm. The centre managers, they only know how to shout at children to keep quiet, photostate papers & could not resolve problems). I withdrew her after 3 yrs of minimal returns of investments(time & money)[/quote]

I thought the HQ is bishan? Katong is popular, heard that also popular with competitors.. :rotflmao: hehehe so must be good. I think it depends on individual teachers since the materials are standard.

Try interacting with the Bishan counter girls, vomit blood.
