different schools use different titles for literature. for son, his sec 1 title was 'sing to the dawn'.She told him that he can start with maths first as alot are build on primary knowledge. Anyway, he is going back for maths enrichment in 3 weeks time. His enrichment teacher told him that she will only give him 1 month break.
Was trying to get hold of his sec 1 literature so he can read up first but tough luck finding it. I recalled dd1 only had 2 days to finish reading her sec 1 literature before the teacher went through that. So that was like a mad rush for her. Alot of her peers have read the book previously.
son will be starting on sec 3 E math this sat...he enjoyed himself a for a few days, then started getting moody because he was worried about his results. -

Some books only sold via Sch bookshop. -
My girl is also feeling bored staying at home. Now she is spending most of her time reading her story books on top of her 3 times a week swim training. I have also asked her to complete the assesment books which she has not completed.
Her lifestyle remains the same, before PSLE, during PSLE, after PSLE. She continue to use her mobile phone, continue to go for sports competition and so on. The only difference is now there is no school homework for her so she becomes very free after school.
We ever told her that we do not wish to make any changes to her lifestyle just because of her exam. She has to learn to be responsible for her own stuff, plan her own time. In future, she would have to sit for O level, maybe A level and it’s unlikely for us to continue to restrict her from doing this and that forever.
My daughter has also told us that there is no need to send her for any tuition when she enters to Sec Sch as it’s going to be very busy with 7 to 8 subjects plus CCA. She would like to do on her own and if she feels that she has difficulties coping with her studies then she will request for tuition. She started having tuition in P5/P6, so hopefully she can handle her studies on her own when she starts her Sec 1 learning journey.
Maybe, we will get her to do some reading on Geog and History in November as these subjects are quite new to the primary school kids. -

Where did you send your dd for Maths lesson? My dd 'remind' me to teach her Sec 1 Maths after her psle.... -

My kids say Sec School Maths is so much easier than PSLE.
They think its really stupid to force Primary School kids to use Models n then switch to Algebra in Sec School to solve problems becos Algebra is much easier to understand n use.
So when you go to Sec School, pls give back all your Models to your Pri School as you no longer need to use them. U have to unlearn what you learn for Maths. -

So far, I can still guide her. And the assessment books I get for her must have step by step answer key for me to study and explain.
From my time to now, not much change in syllabus, IMHO. Maybe as she goes up to sec 2 or 3, I'll have to outsource. But until then... -

some damage done to the kids about pushing them to learn MODELS...UNLEARN models when they graduate from primary school.

Actually I tried to teach ds when he was in sec1, but I couldn't teach much...so I got him a tutor this year.
