My friend told me PLMGS doesn't allow all the poly to promote their courses in the school? They want all the students to choose JC :?

My DD has been receiving brochures from all the Polytechnics in SG by mails now and then. I presume the names and addresses are given either by PL or MOE.
Perhaps there are other reasons like time constraint for such events to be held in sch instead of the sch's preference for JC.

All them sec 4 will receive them through post. What I heard was this school doesn't encourage the student to go Poly so they don't allow them to promote in school

I hold a different view because PL only allows the higher ability pupils to take pure Sciences and it makes up only 50% of the express stream. In view of this, they will not expect all to make it to JC. And if you look at the sch's website history, they have been highlighting Poly achievers alumni. I thought they advocate more on Poly.

Whatever is the school's plan, if the motive is to get the teachers and students to work hard and aim high, I am strongly for it. The final decision of which route to choose still lies in the hand of the student after the O lvls results are released.

In conclusion, PLMGS is a wonderful school. :rahrah:

When my dd choose PL 2.5 yrs ago, I heard there are many rich christian girls in this school and I was worried. But I realised the girls, really many in my dd class live in private properties, are very humble and easy-going. Then a few months ago, there was a case of some boys wearing girls' uniforms, including PL's. The principal appealed for the culprit to own up. She was finally successful and made the sec 2 girl confessed and reflected on her mistake during assembly in front of the whole school. Good disciplinary action taken by PL. I also heard from my dd that the school will help everyone to achieve the National Youth Achievement Award. So it does not only focus on academic achievement but also on holistic aspect.

Any idea how many vacancies are reserved for non-affiliated students? I am worried about low chance of getting into the school if most vacancies are reserved for affiliated students. Tks!
