National average is not 200

200 is the minimum T score to enter Express stream

Yes, I also agree that 200 is not national average.

66% gets into Express stream....so what is the likely national average? Anyone very good at maths can estimate and reason this? haha!

In theory, 50% of the pupils who took the PSLE last year >= 200
So at 66%, the T-score will be < 200. It used to be 188. But with the T-score generally lower by about 5-10 points in 2013 and 204, it is likely to be between 178 and 183 to qualify for Express.
My nephew didnt get into Express with 179 and I know one who got in with 189

Hey quixation! I beg to differ. t-scores are not the cause of a non-\"holistic\" education.

It is the narrow definition of competency in 4 mandatory subjects that created the problem.

Changing t-scores to banded grades is only a placebo.
It won't solve any long-term problems at all.

Agreed.
Now we can still discuss on the COP based on the fine T-score.

When it becomes banded grades, we probably will be scratching our head why your dc A*A*AA can go RI and my A*A*AA can only go ACSI.

I agreed with you.

I was thinking of that when they first announced on the banded grades.
It is really a big concerned.
had PM or Education Minister (HSK) announced from which year batch of P6 this new banding of allocation, into Secondary schools take off ?

Quite true...
Actually I find that by banded grades are not so fair .
A good example : dc scores 2A 2 A* , she got a higher T score than one getting 3A * 1 A .
If by banding grades , I dared not even try IP school .

Does this mean that the top scorer for the 2014 cohort is 280?

Not sure whether it is really 280.

Wondering why no body knows the top score for NYPS.
Someone even mentioned requesting to simply put a figure 270 as top score for NYPS. Very strange.

by stating like this -
it makes one begin to wonder :
is NYPS Top score 270, or below 270 ?
there is actually someone who scores 270. Many people inside the school know that. But as the school will never announce the top scorer, so 270 is the highest score people are aware of for the time being. Nothing strange about that.

I think the ministers don't have kids who went through our PSLE system. The changes they implement and propose are just no-brainer quick fix and making things worse.

2014PSLE-Tscore : ACSP 280 is without HMT bonus. Confirmed by my friend ACSP parent.

there is actually someone who scores 270. Many people inside the school know that. But as the school will never announce the top scorer, so 270 is the highest score people are aware of for the time being. Nothing strange about that.
A lower nyps top score and less % of the nyps cohort getting 250 and above may be good news for other good primary children. Less places in nygs taken up by nyps affiliated students and more places and more chances for other good students in nygs and this will help to lower overall cop of nygs and other schools. It's win win for all! :rahrah:
