I think the ministers don't have kids who went through our PSLE system. The changes they implement and propose are just no-brainer quick fix and making things worse.

2014PSLE-Tscore : ACSP 280 is without HMT bonus. Confirmed by my friend ACSP parent.

Not sure whether it is really 280.
Wondering why no body knows the top score for NYPS.
Someone even mentioned requesting to simply put a figure 270 as top score for NYPS. Very strange.

          by stating like this -
it makes one begin to wonder :
is NYPS Top score 270, or below 270 ?

there is actually someone who scores 270. Many people inside the school know that. But as the school will never announce the top scorer, so 270 is the highest score people are aware of for the time being. Nothing strange about that.[/quote]A lower nyps top score and less % of the nyps cohort getting 250 and above may be good news for other good primary children. Less places in nygs taken up by nyps affiliated students and more places and more chances for other good students in nygs and this will help to lower overall cop of nygs and other schools. It's win win for all! :rahrah:

Friend’s son from SJI Jnr 3rd class scored 249. According to this friend, cohort of SJI Jnr and ACS did well for this year psle.

Excuse me, there are many ministers/SMSes/MOSes/MPs whose kids went through the PSLE system.

Surely your friend would know a minister's son just collected his result slip as well?

Just FYI. Fewer 250+ scorers might not mean fewer NYPS girls accepted into NYGH. The gap between 2014 and 2013 is not huge, whereas the gap between 2013 vs 2012 cohore is quite large for NYPS graduates. However, the number of NYPS girls who got accepted into NYGH last year remained unchanged, if not more.

What I observed is that there might be fewer 260+ scorers, but the number of 250-260 scorers did not reduce, therefore their chance of getting into NYGH using affiliated mark was not deprived.

For someone whose dd is very keen to enroll in NYGH, the best strategy is not to calculate the number of vacancies NYPS girls might release, but to wait for a more confirmed lowest score for EESIS. Hence we will have a better idea of the top 3% benchmark.

Think there was an earlier discussion on the EESIS cutoff, which is 257.xx. This means top 3% is >=257. There was also an earlier discussion of 249 as the cutoff for top 10% of cohort, since this is the cutoff for offering 3rd language.

If that is the case, then it means that the number of students between 250-256 are more than last year in terms of % competing for schools. My guess is this :
-schools with cutoffs between 256-261 to drop by 1 point from last year
-schools with cutoffs at 250-255 range may stay around the same or even increase by 1 point from last year, depending on demand

Anyone want to comment on my guess?

                        quixation:
What i meant was searching for highest t score instead of looking at mean average of the cohort or national levels. Sure t score helps in COP and gauging a pupil's competency in the respective subjects..but emphasising on who & which school and which race was the top student who obtained the highest t score, i *scratch head*

Does Tscore helps at all in gauging a student's competency? I strongly doubt so.
Over the years even from my own PSLE experience, the Tscore has rewarded those students who are strong in their languages esp Mother Tongue and discounted those who are weak in languages but stronger in Maths and Science.
I hv come across my own classmates who scored C in Chinese but did very well in other subjects who scored much lower than those who achieved A* in Chinese but weaker in Science and Maths. This system benefits those PRC students the most, doesn't it?
I have come across many examples like the above.
But the same classmates of mine who scored a low Tscore due to weak Chinese went on to score great results in O levels when Chinese/MT is not a requisite in the best 6 subjects.
MOE..its time for a change in the computation of T-score. Fairer way to gauge the competency of a child is to only use the 3 main subjects, English, Maths and Science to computate while MT should be banded HD, D, Merit and Pass and reward with extra 3, 2 and 1 points respectively
This can be done easily since there are now many students who are exempted from Mother Tongue and their Tscores are based on the other 3 subjects anyway.
This can even effectively reduce number of students finding ways and means to drop Mother Tongue :celebrate:
