Becky has some coffee powder. She kept half of it in an air-tight container and the other half in a plastic bag. After one week, Becky observed some changes.

Q1: What do you think will Becky observe after a week?

Q2: Explain your answer in Q1.

This is a P4 CA1 question, please help. I know the coffee powder in the plastic bag will be harden but donโ€™t know why. Something to do with the airโ€ฆ??

      TIA.

I think the coffee powder in the air-tight container has no change. The one in plastic bag may have some mould growing on it (?)

Hi underthesea. I think the coffee powder in the plastic bag will harden because the moisture inside the coffee powder will evaporate out of the plastic bag, while in the airtight container, it will evaporate, condense on the inner side of the container and drop back to the coffee powder.

            Hi Muffins,
Thanks for your reply. But I thought it's the moist in the air that cause the coffee powder harden, no?

Will let you know the answer when school re-open.

I need some help here. Can seeds germinate when placed on a moist cotton wool in the refrigerator?

In this case, water and air is given except warmth.
                Thanks.

If i didn't remember wrongly, i think nope. I think this was a popular example used in pri sch for \"experimenting\".

Hi underthesea, I found out that for the coffee question, the water would collect on the coffee and it would become moist... Hope that helps! ๐Ÿ˜„

                      Hi

In primary science, students are taught that the right conditions for germination are water, air and warmth. Therefore seeds will not germinate in a refrigerator.

                      Best wishes

Thanks to those who have helped and replied. I think OVERALL: warmth is needed though some seeds can germinate even in cold temperatures.

Now the next questions: is light necessary during germination? Ths \"ans\" is not necessary ie seeds can germinate even in the darkness provided water and air is provided because they get their food from their seed leaves. Until the food in the seed leaves has been used up, by then the green leaves are grown, the seedlings would need light ie sunlight to make its own food during the day.

                        Doesn't light equate to warmth?

I am getting more and more confused.

                        Thanks.
