Hi is there any recommendation for experienced good piano teacher in sengkang area? I am hoping to get my 6 yr old girl to learn piano and go for exams. She's currently in Yamaha Junior music course transferring to junior extension course. She has yet to learn note reading. I am hoping she can get grade 7 by P6. Is it possible??

Hi, I have sent you a pm. Thanks.

my daughter has been learning piano for quite a while… teacher told me she is very slow at grasping new pieces and doesn’t know how to relate to keys on the piano. we take about 3 weeks to clear a piece as compared to others who clears song within a week. not comparing with anyone but all her other students generally finish in a week. Few of her students are already developing perfect pitch whilst my gal can’t even grasp the basic.

anyone have any advise on how to help my daughteR? is it more practice ? is it that she lack certain gifts or is she a slow learner? i am not a pianist myself but i sit with her to practice. she is 6 this year… anyone else in similar situation? she loves piano and refuses to stop .

I'm commenting as a parent. for me as long as my kid has the interest and willing to make the effort to practise, i will fully support her no matter how slow she learn.
my DD is quite a slow learner too. she's painfully slow when it comes to sight reading.she cant do her homework on her own as she's lack of confident to do it correctly. she often have to seek assurance from me before writing down the answer.
very frustrating as a parent as all of us hope that our kid is the next prodigy. i try not to scream at her when she make the same mistake for the number 1000 times. not to nit pick when she is not in mood to play and try to wrap up the day practise as quickly as possible. on good days, we will play a little more and try some new pieces or revisit past songs.

It was painful teaching my own girl piano when she was still a preschooler. I could not understand why she could not get simple pieces right. More than 10 years down the road, today her skills has surpassed mine. she has completed her grade 8 with high distinction and plays for the church. Some kids just need more time to mature and learn. Don't compare.

thank u for your reply. i try not to compare , just that the teacher highlighted that most of her students are already beyond her . so i am just wondering if i am doing the right thing for her.

What is the teacher's purpose in telling you that, did she provide any recommendations on what you should do? If your daughter is slow at grasping new pieces and doesn't know how to relate to keys on the piano, isn't it the teacher's responsibility to rectify that? Also, does her \"other students\" belong to the same age group as your daughter?

Different kids develop at different pace, if your girl loves piano, then that's enough. If the teacher can't teach, then change the teacher 😂

Reassess the suitability to the teacher. Is your girl doing what is beyond her ?
                        And your kid’s practice regime.
How does she typically practice or try a new piece ?
When my boy was learning note reading, I made Flashcards. You may want to see how else to make her learn better.
Like now my boy has difficulty remembering (or plain lazy) musical terms for his theory tests, after translating them to flashcards to "play", he can remember them well.
