Any parents know if students at NUSH use laptop a lot as learning tool? I heard school does not require student to have laptop becos there are computer labs. Will having a laptop help the kid or worse, become a distraction?

These days, the smartphone is a bigger distraction.

Haha, agree. But smartphone is a necessary evil I think. Even for parents like us.. That's a topic for another day.

Any life experiences from parents on laptop usage at NUSH?

It is nice to have, but not necessary.
It adds to the weight to carry.
My son told me he does need to buy one.

DD just graduate, for her, smart phone is a must, she need to have it everyday, read and response to emails, communication within CCA, interest group and etc via whatapp.

Notebook for project and presentation works in school.

Desk top with large screen for school works at home.

            Hope above helps.

              Thanks.

Can I say that unlike in some secondary schools or Poly that require students access material, submit homework online, prepare reports or slides, students at NUSH can go through the 6 years without having a personal laptop? Or does it vary by year or what you study?

It is definitely necessary to have a desktop PC at home to access material, submit homework online, prepare reports or slides. But bringing a laptop to school is optional. The school will supply laptop to use in school if it is required.

You do not need to bring a notebook to school everyday, but you will need it when you are doing your ARP, whether in school or in the research lab, if you are on some programmes like MPP,SMP MOE LSAP, MOE OSAP, Brain Camp, NUSH OSAP, NUSH school exchange programme, SSEF presentation and etc.

                    Hope this help.

                        Hi,
The two MT book, if you are taking Chinese.
The other possible book is the Biology book, \" Biology Concept and Connection\" by Campbell, Reece, Taylor, ) which student will read a few chapter for Yr 1 & 2. In year 3, school will recommend another Biology book, \" Campbell Biology by Reece.

It is possible to download pdf copy of both books and their chapters ppt from the internet.

for the biology books, they come in international edition, cost probably about S$35.00 for each. the two MT books will probably cost S$10. (information from few years back), anyway the Popular book shop in the school sell them. Best buy the biology book from school as other Popular shops in town will probably not carry it.

For old books, sometime students dump them in the recycle box in the hostel.

Hope above is helpful to you
