      ParkYuni:

Can send their economics pupils to Greece on exchange program to learn the actual pronunciation of their JC as well as to get a lesson on debt crisis.
What? And make them realise that \"Eunoia\" in Greek actually sounds weirder than English. Key \"εὔνοια\" into Google translate and have fun trying to figure out how to say it properly

        RATMAN:
I think the fellow who came up with the name Eunoia last time studied Greek as a foreign language...

        Highly doubt so.

More like a case of a civil servant who was made to flip through the dictionary in order to come up with some out-of-the-box name... and it all went wrong.

          GreenBird:

The students who chose IP for these 3 schools, do not know that they will graduate with A level, from Eunonia Junior College yet, at that time when they submitted their list of 6 choices Secondary schools.

Errh, excuse me GreenBird, it's Eunoia, not Eunonia. Can't blame you for mispelling 'cause it is likely to happen to anyone as we know no Greek.
MOE spokesman said it is pronounced as 'yoo-noh-iea' but I did a google search and it is 'eu-no-ya'. So who is right?

It is pronounced 'you no yia'. As in you no win. 😉 :siam:

So apparently. Even MOE got the pronunciation of Eunoia wrong.
It should be yoo-noy-uh and not yoo-noh-iea as MOE claims.
To make things worse, according to my friend Edward C. Yong who has a degree in Greek, it is pronounced as Eff-Ni-ah in modern Greek. Which in my opinion is worse. Lol. Imagine all the expletives going around. F-你-ah.
And final insult to injury? According to the same friend, 'eunoia' does NOT mean 'beautiful thinking'.
'eu-' doesn't mean 'beautiful', it means 'well' or 'good'. 'eunoia' = 'well-minded' or 'mentally ok'. a low bar to entry, clearly. honestly. 'eunoia jc' = 'mentally ok jc' or 'not insane jc'.

Can faint now as the only good thing about this name is its meaning....
            Oh dear.

It also comes to mind the 2 lady cleaners in my condo, one a chinese and another a malay. They like to ask each other during lunchtime: 'you no ea(t) arh?'...eunoia?
