I suggest the parent should find out the number of science or art classes the respective JCs are opening for that year. Some JCs may have a lower cut off points because they have smaller intake for that stream.

Most important factor to consider should be: After visiting the JC, does your child like to study in the JC environment.

NYJC definitely is more supportive of a hybrid combination. Every year there are classes in NYJC which are specifically for hybrid combinations. Subject combinations are extremely flexible in NYJC. The school practically allows you to choose whatever subjects you want to study.

Moreover the school is more up-to-date and I strongly believe provides a more conducive environment to study in as compared to AJC.

Agreed. I think NYJC is a better JC. Lookin at last year's cop NYJC is also more difficult to get in than AJC

I feel that to know whether one JC is better than the other will be to look at their A level grades n not the COP.

COP is very deceiving becos even a 2 pointer student will choose the mid tier JCs.

DS has one friend who is like that.

Hi! I'm currently torn between AJC and NYJC. I'm planning to do a hybrid combo too, but idk if I should take up lit in H1 as I did not take Lit at my O'levels. And I am also uncertain on which JC would more more suitable in supporting a hybrid course.

These are my results, PLEASE HELP! šŸ˜„

            EL - A1
            EM - A1
            Hist/SS - A1
            Physics - A2
            Chemistry - A2
            AM - A2
Chinese - B4 (haha, my chinese has always been my achilles' heel)

            L1R5: 9-2 = 7.
AJC's math is very strong, and their exam papers are of a corresponding level. (you can ask your seniors / friends about what they think of AJC's H2 Math papers).
That being said, it will be a good training, and AJC students have a high distinction rate in H2 maths.

              grownupbaby:
Thanks VitoRelax. So, it is the same algorithm as Sec 1 posting. The only difference is that for T-score there is decimal point but not for L1R5, it will involve balloting if the score is the same.

For simplicity, we just assumed that there are only 2 types of bonus points of 2 and 4 (meaning only -2 and -4)

Then the algorithm goes like this.

First those with the lowest nett score gets to select the school. So, 2 is the lowest bcos there are 6 subjects in L1R5 (ie 6-4=2)

So all those Singaporean with 6-4=2 gets to select which school they wanna go. If there are say 8 Singapreans with 6-4=2, then these 8 students are randomly selected by computer to see who gets to select first.

The next batch are PRs with 6-4=2

              Then international students with 6-4=2

Then, it goes to the next number up, ie batch with nett score of 3 and so on ...

When it reach batch with nett score of 4, it is like this:

The next batch are Singaporeans with 6-2=4

              Then Singaporeans with 8-4=4

              Then PRs with 6-2=4

              Then RRs with 8-4=4

              Then international students with 6-2=4

              Then international students with 8-4=4

Then, it goes to the next number up, ie batch with 5 and so on ...

              Hope that helps

COP is not deceiving. COP is a gauge and is the score of the last student who entered.

So, if you like NYJC which has a lower COP than say another JC like AJC, when you have to put NYJC before AJC in your selection.

If you put the other way round, there is no way you gonna get NYJC because you will get AJC.
