Though my dd struggled in Chinese (along with panicked parents)…I will still vote "NO" here for the sake of our future generation & competition landscape. After all we are proud to be Chinese, so why lessen the importance of learning the language?

I wonder if these people should call themselves elite. Elite should be people who are intelligent. But what I see now is just the opposite, they are not even able to take the challenge from Chinese language, they find it difficult, which means they admit themselves not as intelligent as those who can master the Chinese Language.

Poor Singaporean, we are ruled by this group of inadequate \"Elite\"

                can't agree with more...
Elite in Chinese is 精英. But here it means 精通英文 only.....

think those Elite group are very selfish, in order for their children or grandchildren to ace into top sec school, they want to change the system at the expense of our future generations.....

on a hindsight, most top schools support bilingualism. so they will also prefer bilingual kids rather than monolingual kids.

so even if these kantang kids score 280, there are still so many brighter SG kids or even prcs who do better than them. maybe there is still no spaces for them afterall. plus people see their credentials, cant even face up to challenge but still have face to call themselves elites. haha. so funny  buay paiseh

anyway, if kantangs dont support bilingualism, dont see a need for them to scramble to top schools. they will suffer there eventually too. fastest and easiest way just set up a kantang school where all kantangs can gather and kantangise. :celebrate:

feel shamed to see Singapore take such a souless step backward when 孔子学院 is sprouting worldwide even in Africa.
