      mindays:
Personally, I had seen JCs papers for Physics.

      On average for Physics,
HCI is the hardest among all JCs
      RI comes 2nd
      NJC 3rd
VJC, NYJC, DHS, RVHS - have a fair share of difficult qns (at least 70%)
TJC, ACJC, AJC, SAJC - moderate - tough qns
MJC, CJC, YJC, PJC, TPJC, SRJC, IJC, JJC - basic - moderate qns
      MI - basic qns

If you don't believe me, take a good look at their papers.

I believe all JCs will try to teach their students within the syllabus.
HCI, RI may broaden their students' skills set by teaching outside the syllabus though.
Wow,mindays, you managed to get hold of and digest all the Physics papers of the 20 schools that offers 'A' level ! May I know if they are all of the same year and how could we get copies of such papers (Paper 1 to 4)? Alternatively, is it possible for you to scan the papers and share them with us?

I took Physics for my A levels a donkey years ago. I can tell the standard of the papers. I took a look at paper 1 and 2 of these schools and skimmed through them. My neighbour's son who graduated this year passed my DS his set of papers (year 2015). He was from NYJC. I was initially surprised of how he possessed these approx. 20 school papers. He said NYJC provides these school papers for the students to practise. Yes, all of them are year 2015.

Oh to answer your question, I must say, it takes pure luck to have a neighbour who have copies of such papers. It is not possible for me to share these papers with you, digitally. I do not want to break the law as these are copy-righted materials. I am sure you wouldn't do such a silly thing to \"prove\" what you say.

A better way for you to check my credibility is to ask other JC students about the difficulty.

I will ask my neighbour's son. He took PCME, probably he has.

Hi mindays thanks for the answer! Very informative. Do one school has significantly more exams than other schools? 🙂 and btw, do you think it is better to have more difficult questions or questions that are of the same standards with A levels?

Most JCs in Singapore have 4 major exams (internally), they are
J1 Block Test (MYE for JC1)
J1 Promotional Examination (EOY for JC1)
J2 Mid Year Exam (MYE for JC2)
J2 Preliminary Examination (EOY for JC2)

There after, they will soar for the A level Examination.

It is better to have a mix of difficult questions and questions of the same standards with A levels.
When I say difficult questions, I mean questions that require more thinking, more workings, but they are still questions that need a solid foundation of a topic. Questions of the same standards with A levels can be easily found in TYS of the respective subjects. I believe it is more than sufficient to work with 10 years worth of questions, pitted at A level standard. Questions set at A level standard mainly test the students' concept of the respective topics.

Perhaps, take a look at this website: http://www.exampaper.biz/Free-JC-Exam-P ... hysic.html

They have Physics H1 H2 JC Exam Papers 2013. It can be a rough gauge of the standards set by the JCs. However, they are 3 years backed. It is still a useful source though.

                  Chanced upon this webpage: http://www.nanyangjc.moe.edu.sg/nyjc/an ... sa-at-nyjc

It seems that 1 piece of official result has been released.
For the past 5 years in NYJC,
H2 Art has maintained about 80% distinction rate.
For the 2015 A level examination,
H2 Art distinction rate is 100%.

From this, I see that NYJC is trying to attract Secondary 4 students to DSA into NYJC.
Also, many of their DSA graduates seem to do very well in the A levels. This is evident from the courses they are pursuing in University (double degree etc)

Hmm you’re right. A level standard questions can more easily be found. But is it normal for JC 2 (or 1) students to have class test every week? Heard that may happen in NYJC. Anyone knows what about other JCs, or whether that is true?

From what I gathered, it is normal for JC2 students to have tests every fortnight, but not common to have class test(s) for JC1 students every week :nailbite: In JC1, students have to cope with an extra subject which is Project Work and some need to do MT. That will total to 2 extra subjects in JC1 as compared to JC2. It will be over-whelming to have too many tests. Morever, smart and diligent students may prefer to be empowered to learn more independently instead of being spoonfed with tests.

Interesting analysis. You seem to be ranking the Physics papers according to the JCs' COP! 😂 My DS1 had just graduated from JC last year. From his experience, the model answers given by the NYJC teachers weren't very comprehensive/substantial, and so were some other JCs. He did not mention if NYJC papers were indeed tougher than most JCs but IMHO, being able to provide a good answer to any question set by the JC is of great importance too.
