What I don't understand is whether is there really a need to push these kids?
Yes, burnt out is a real issue here. We always have to thread carefully between pushing to max potential and going overboard. Just a fine line

Recently, I had a chat with a parent whose dd is in charity 5. According to her, the school conducts extra Eng and Math gifted programmes for selected ones who almost made it to gifted during the P3 gifted assessment. The kids had to attend classes after curriculum time on top of CCAs and supp classes. These kids stayed back almost daily! Poor kids.
Aren't these extra optional?
As my boy was transferred to PH for P4, his case was overlooked by the sch when conducting its in-house \"Centre of Excellence\" prog. Is the extra EL and MA gifted prog you mentioned part of this Centre of Excellence?
If the selected pupils are truely capable and enjoy the extras, then we should not see them as \"poor kids\". Just my 2cts. -

The parent I spoke to did not mention about \"Centre of Excellence\". According to the parent, these lessons were not conducted throughout the year. Her P5 dd was still attending in the first term this year. My understanding was the two subjects were not conducted over the same period of time thus one of the subjects reached completion first. The mother complained tt her dd hardly have time for other non-academic activities.Aren't these extra optional?

If it's the kids' choice to attend these extras, I guess they will have to take responsibility and learn to cope with it. It is really not easy for them. If they are unwilling parties, I am afraid it might cause more damage than good. -

Fully agree...very very delicate. Either make it or break it.E3:

A friend’s whose daughter is in Grace said the principal wants to push bcos they are in the top 3 classes. It’s madness, bcos education is a long process. I feel the heat the moment my son went to P1, and he’s an average.
When kids are burnt out, their internal system will shut down and refuse to go further. We really have to be careful. I told my son to be careful each time he does his papers & not hurry through. -
hi ladies,
can anyone help clarify pls? this relates to kid in P1.
a) for 看图造句, can the kiddos write the entire sentence in hypy? little one claims no need for 汉字(?!) :? sounds too good to be true:p
b) for sentence-making, it appears the sequence in which the helping words is used does not seem to matter, is this true?

hi e3,
you're absolutely right... it's a ds for me. was paraphrasing the points for dion, thus the use of feminine terms.
e3, janet,
thanks for the info re excursion. will certainly volunteer if nothing crops up.
re \"poor kids issue\"... on the contrary, i actually feel it's a happy problem
as in the kids get 1 more choice. i 'm positive the parents+kids have a say as to whether they want in on the prog. this is the 21st century, surely no one can be coerced into such arrangements. i reckon a kid should be able to drop out of the prog anytime... provided his parents back up his decision. otherwise, he's a poor kid of his parents' making. :siam: -
Hi all, I'm new here. Glad to find this forum.
I'm looking for parents with the child going to the malacca trip.

Hi
northernlights
for sentence making the sequence does not matter.
But they’re not allow to write the sentence in hypy, will get penalise for it (for some teachers). Especially those words that have been taught in class and from the last few pages of the 识写字 on the textbk, they need to know. -
northernlights:
Hi northernlights, for p1, they are allowed to use a mixture of chars and hypy for SA1 sentence-making cos if they are able to form good sentences but not able to write all the chars, they could use hypy as hypy is taught to them in term 1. They will not be penalized for SA1. However, from SA2 onwards and P2 onwards, they must write only chi characters. All the best!hi ladies,
