Q&A - PSLE Science
-
Hi ruyu
Floating plants offer shade for fish and protection from predators. Predators cannot see fish when they are under the pads. The pads also offer shade from the hot sun. As the name suggests, floating plants float on the surface of water and take in nutrients from the water, which is partly enriched by the fish’s waste.
I think at PSLE, it is good enough stop here. From going through with my boy on past years papers last year, I’ve yet to come across question on interdependence between floating plants and fish.
One common question is interdependence between animals and plants in a terrarium. If I remember correctly, the question usually touches on submerged plants such as hydrilla.

Hi
I think you are referring to Q6.Please follow this link.

This is not an easy paper.
The coating of oil on the leaves prevents gaseous exchanges, therefore preventing photosynthesis.
Plants can also respire through stems and roots. Option (4) is correct.

Hi tianzhu,
Thanks for the answer.
One more clarification.

Question No 44.
Is the answer correct ?.
My child says object A is a magnet because the magnet (in the picture) is attracted (moved) towards object A.
If object A is a magnetic material the magnet will remain in its own position and only object A is moved towards the magnet. There was a question similar to this in P4 and it was marked wrong. Cannot remember properly.

nice point. But I think that is true only if Magnet is heavier than Object A. Consider an iron bar and a small magnet. the magnet will move and get stuck to the iron rod, wont it?
Tianzhu, your expert comment please -
ruyu:
the roots of the plant are in the water and not on the soil
All plants (regardless land or water) can only absorb nutrients that are dissolved in water. Therefore, it is not important whether the roots are in the soil or floating in water.
2 special types of plants can get nutrients in other ways.
First are some plants with aerial roots that can absorb nutrients from the air. A common example is \"money plant\" It can grow well without soil because the aerial roots can absorb nutrients from the air.
Second are plants like the venus fly-trap which trap insects and absorb their nutrient. -

The answer in the WS is correct. If you need further clarification, please let me know.

Hi
Tianzhu, your expert comment please
So paiseh, I am no expert. The old timers in KSP will know that I am a victim of circumstances. A poor man with shallow pockets who is unable to send his boy for additional classes. As you know, classes specializing in answering higher order question do not come cheap.
So, I am forced to read up to play the goalkeeper’s role in case my boy needs help. My answers are not always correct, so read them with your eyes wide open.I am grateful to ChiefKiasu for giving me freedom in his forum to post my less than desirable answers.I am learning much from this forum.

Tianzhu, you are truly, truly very modest. Your answers, how could you call them less than desirable?! You have explored the depths of the problem deeper than anyone I know, and, though your answers may sometimes be wrong (one in a billion chance), we always know that you will come right to the rescue and make your problem accurate for us.Hi

I feel very proud to know such a modest, yet profoundly excellent and smart man, and, when you say that you are reading up just so you can teach your son, I feel very humbled, to be talking to a man with such a big heart, who spends his time, instead of doing his own thing, reading up to help his son. I am sure anyone would be proud to have a father like you.
Though you say you are learning a lot from KSP, I can assure you that we are also learning a lot from you....
Hope to talk to you soon.
