Reviving this thread. Anyone has any comments on the La Gourmet range of cast iron cookware? It's a lot cheaper than the La Creuset and Staub. Wondering about the quality.

I feel that La Gourmet pdts do not hv a smooth finish at the edges compared to other brands.

      Is it made in china?
I dunno if it is made in China. The touch around the edge is just not the same to me.

Jtoh, I’ll go ask and will revert. My guess is Thailand.

All cast iron are the same except for the enamel coating. They still rust where there’s no coating especially the edges. My Le Creuset also rust (edging) if not in use for a week. They need to be air dried thoroughly before placing in the cabinet with rubber bumper on before the cover. Btw, there are Le Creuset that are made in Thailand too.

For the 'raw' areas, it is recommended to coat the area with cooking oil especially if not used for a long time?

There are Le Creuset made in Thailand too? You refering to the cast iron pots?

As with so many small appliances, the first rule of buying a new iron is not to assume that the more expensive the machine, the better it is. The Singer and Black & Decker irons are great if budget is a concern.

On my recent trip to Germany I saw this brand cookware sold in some shops. I do not know whether the prices there r lower than Sg prices. Anyone knows?

Le Creuset is cheaper in Europe. However, they are freaking heavy. Unless you are travelling with empty luggages or have a lot of free baggage allowance (due to class of travel, or frequent flyer status), you are likely to go over your baggage limits if you bring a couple of pieces home. The excess you are going to pay for your excess baggage is going to negate any cost savings from buying them in Europe.
