No worries. If I can help I’ll do so. In our Spore education environment, it’s not easy for parents. Hv good things, share for the better future of Spore kids. I’ll be happy to hear feedback & hopefully these teachers maintain their standards & quality of teaching.

Wow! Your gal must be good in her writing. Get lots of ideas & English will be good fr so much reading.

NLB loans up to 16 books max each borrowing. Enough for your gal's appetite? Save the earth better than buying books & nowhere to chuck. Mine read non-stop & hard to push them to their usual sports. Will sign them up for ice-skating or rock-climbing.

How I wish dd's language is good, Esteema. Her Eng is still near bottom at her level  the comics are in chi and her chi in school also average only. I m still thinking dunno how to help her in her Eng. That's why I told her go read the books at home when she asked to go library this morning. Go library very difficult to get her borrow proper Eng or even Chi books. We went to another nlb the last visit. dd was so happy to see different types of comics. we used 3 cards, 2 adults and one kid. 10 each quota for adults. dd1 borrowed 19books, dd2 has few YS magazine and I have 3/4 mag。total 28.

It's good that she starts liking books. You can steer her towards more \"solid food\" as she develops. Anyway, kids do get motivated by other kids as their develop & progress in their childhood.

Are u staying anywhere near Bishan? You can try Academia (Mr Sherman Tseng altho ano KSP mum shared with me Mr Johann Loh also good). They're really good in coaching kids & you'll see marked improvement. For compo, I know Ms Agnes from Writers@Work can teach kids to write very well for compo. Again, I heard her class full (no more vacancy coz one mum lucky enuf to catch last place last month). I don't know abt other teachers in same centre tho).

Let your gals enjoy their holidays. Good that mummy MrsKiasu brings them to library to nurture reading habits.[/quote] :thankyou: Esteema. I will keep it in mind..at the same time, I hope I could put in more efforts on dd's Eng.

Once again, we’re bringing back the free masterclass for our parents and guests. Drop by Academia to meet our Director of Teaching and Curriculum, Mr Sherman Tseng, a former MOE Vice-Principal and English HOD. We’ll provide you with an insider perspective on the paradigm shifts that lie ahead. Admission is free but seats are limited.

I've to confess I've never seen value in holiday programmes for primary kids. Maybe for toddlers & kiddy kids - those play-learn type.

Recent years confirmed when we were forced to pay for holiday workshops claimed as part of our regular curriculum at TLL. Ours cldnt attend due to sch supp classes, but classmates of other sch said revision of previously taught topics & had to complete in class time over 2 days. Did to total hours, we ended paid extra whole month fees.

                  Do consider other substantive programmes.

If it's prep for PSLE, shld start this sch holiday (of course intersperse with holiday or outings to Sc Centre or Gardens by the Bay, etc whichever yr DD enjoys). Don't wait till next year holiday.

Study relationship takes time to build for teacher/coach to know strength & weaknesses of kids to help them improve. Also, consider their need for adjustments to avoid negative reactions. You don't want to add a stressful year & turn their minds off studies.

I started building interest & discipline of regular habit of hardwork. Even vacation, I'll be doing daily packing & washing whilst DH will work on kids' 听写 in 3/5 or 10s to help them pick up fast during new school term. JMO

                      agree with you, Esteema

don't find those short, year-end Dec holiday programmes / enrichment useful at all. In fact, those normal lessons during regular Term-time tuition are better as they tend to provide more \"meat\", so to speak.

                        sembgal:

DSA is double-edged sword. Don't go for DSA just for the sake of it. In top schools, there are some struggling inside because they went in via DSA sports route and cannot meet the academic challenge.
Actually, if one isn't sure if their child is able to handle IP-track Secondary school work load or not, it is much safer to choose those IP-schools that offer dual track.

In the event worse come to worst, if really unable to cope by end of Sec 2 after attempt IP for two solid years, at least can still appeal to Principal to transfer back to the O-level track, within the SAME school premises (No need to Transfer to another school), to start preparing themselves for GCE \"O\" level for 2 years, starting beginning Sec 3 Term 1, until end of Sec 4.

-In contrast, if enter those single-track IP schools, if child in the end cannot cope, was asked to go to those \"on-demand\" O level class formed, we are not sure of the quality of those Teachers teaching & preparing them for O level, since

                        Food for thought :-

                        a)
in single-track IP schools : these teachers are so used to teaching students in the fast, IP track curriculum based.

                        b)
students who drop-out from IP-track : happen to be the \"minority\" in those single-track IP schools.

Do you think these single track IP-schools will prefer to allocate more resources, to focus more on helping their \"majority IP\" students, or on the \"minority drop-out \" IP students ?

                        c)
students who are in dual-track IP schools : majority are doing GCE O level, besides those IP-students present.

Since there are majority of students there doing O level, there tend to exist a number of good, experienced subject Teachers who know how to guide students well, in preparing for GCE O level.
