Hi, may i ask if anyone’s aware that there is priority admission given to kids with gymnastics background, i.e. via sports talent?

If you are referring to P1 admission, then the answer is no. P1 admission to all schools in Singapore is governed by MOE guidelines on the various phases - Phase 1, 2A(1), 2A(2), 2B, etc etc.
You can apply to transfer schools in the subsequent years if there are any vacancies and that's where you would submit your (current) school results & achievements.
What you are referring to in sports talent scheme for priority admission sounds more like DSA into Sec 1 during the P6 year before the PSLE exams. -
Ah ok. Asking about this because my son is currently in Nanyang Kindergarten. Recently, there was a newsletter issued out on a list of enrichment classes that will be offered from next term onwards. Gymnastics happened to be one of them and it will be taught in NYPS by their coach. It was written to the effect that NYPS wants to discover young talent in gymnastics and hence offering such classes in NYK. This has led me to think that there might be some kind of priority admission via such a route.

Oh, there are always some after-school enrichment classes offered for different sports/ activities. You can try out some for a term or so then switch to another one to expose your son to different things in the first few years (P1-P3). In P4, they will have to select a CCA. If the kids are already quite good in the sport/ dance/ choir/ etc, then they could begin joining the school teams for training/ competition.
But again, these are all activities after the children are enrolled into the schools. MOE strictly regulates the enrollment for obvious reasons and I believe the schools have to report the number of children under each phase. No DSA-like activities are allowed. -
Actually my son is still in Nanyang Kindergarten attending Nursery classes now. But the kindergarten is already offering gymnastics as one of the enrichment classes which will be taught in NYPS by their coach. And because they word it in a such a way that NYPS wants to discover new talent from young and hence offering these classes from Nursery level in NYK, that has got me to think about the sports talent route admission into NYPS
Hope it clarifies any confusion caused. -
I think it’s just an additional enrichment option for you to consider. Since they are doing enrichment in the school, it’s a familiar environment for your son too. No harm trying it out but I don’t think you can use that as an entry criteria.
Think it’s good to try, though… even if it’s just to find out whether your son likes this activity or not. -
Yes, I agree with you. The other enrichment classes are somewhat more academically driven. Hence I am more in favour towards the gymnastics classes. Thanks for your inputs, Zappy!

Info from the school website: http://nyps.moe.edu.sg/downloads/others
\"For Singaporean and Singapore PR children born in the year 2014, the closing date for registration will be 31st July 2018.
The PV selection is not on a first-come, first-served basis. The school has the final and sole discretion in inviting shortlisted applicants for an interview, with the representatives of the school, which will be held in November/December 2018. We seek your understanding that the school will not be able to share with you the reasons for non-selection.
Successful PVs will be notified by year end to commence their service in area(s) which the school deems fit. They are to ensure that they will be able to meet the minimum 80 hours of voluntary service by June 2020 if they would like to be eligible for Phase 2B of the Primary One Registration Exercise.
PVs are to note that their children are not guaranteed of a place in Nanyang Primary School under Phase 2B of the Primary One Registration Exercise.\" -
