2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
-
daughter’s school started supplementary lessons twice a week for p6s…other than that, it was remedial for weaker ones.
I find supplementary lessons a waste of time for lower primary. the kids are so tired after a long day and if the teachers are just going extend teaching, nothing will be absorbed. supplementary means to ‘supplement’ the curriculum and not to get compositions or extend teaching. -
Hi Parents,
Before the date come near, I still relax in mind.
But since the date has come, I now feel very stress.
As new paper release the new rule and some of the parents given link on this discussion, I quite worry that I will miss some important things.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
If under phase 2A to 2B, need to present at the primary school for registration on the particular date mentioned on MOE website.
If under Phase 2 C ( my DS) and above, can register online and date start on 30jul? am I right?
The result only will be notify on 8 aug. May know what should to do next if not able to get? Jump into Phase 2C supplement?
For me, I stayed within 1 KM of Yew Tee Primary school and Unity Primary School.
I know the decision has to be done by myself but I hope to get some reviews from parents who knew about both of these schools, thanks. -

Finally, replaced ping pong balls with computer.P1 registration has always been a stressful time...especially those born in hot years like dragon and horse years. I understand there will be some changes for this year’s registration:
1) p1 can register online (maybe it already started but I didn’t realize)
2) balloting will not be manual like before... wonder if parents feel less stressful this way.
.
Should be less stressful .... since no more \"live\" viewing of ping pong balls on-site, anymore.
Instead, now parents can just wait at home for news :
for MOE to sms parents, update them whether balloted \"in \" or \"out\", after the balloting process is conducted, over .
also, parents no need to apply leave, just to go down to schools, to view balloting.
only concern is :-
manual still can verify. At least, ping pong ball is Transparent.
Computer : how to verify ?
How does the computer balloting algorithm work ? -
phtthp:
even my mum is sceptical about this. I really :salute: her on this. if computer balloting can be done for HDB balance flats, it is also possible for this purpose.

ping pong ball may be stressful but it's clear cut.
but computer  :skeptical:
I think parents would prefer to be at the scene instead of waiting at home. -

Whether whose K2 child's ping pong ball roll out of the rotating cage or not, parents can verify, on the spot.

Whether got any twins or triplets taking up extra balloting space, on actual balloting day, parents can see, because they are all present, at the premises.
e.g.
if one twin gets in, the other twin automatically also get in. So, occupy 2 seats instead of one. The same for triplets, although rare.
But how the computer algorithm has been designed for balloting, written by a programmer who code the source code, nobody know. Computer programming logic : can be altered by human. What if one day in future, someone \" tweak \" the algorithm, to give certain people benefit or advantage ?
Is a black box .... no question to be asked. Is assumed that parents just have to accept the balloting verdict (in or out).
under computer balloting now, for twins case, is the names of both twins thrown into the computer, to ballot together ?
what if computer pick out only 1 twin, didn't pick up the other twin?
means that the twins end up goto separate primary schools ?
different from ping pong ball case : where either both twins are in together, or both are out together ? -
I think the issue here is: old system - parents can be there to audit the process. New system - MOE ownself check ownself. They are expecting everybody to trust the algorithm and no parents to push to examine the video evidence of the process.
I’m so glad im already done with DS’ balloting before they changed the system.
But...in future for his PSLE the AL system will also have balloting. Accept lor, what to do... -
now is 2018.
left last 3 PSLE T-score batches to go, before roll out AL Psle score new syetem. -

twins/triplets will be put together as 1...but not being to see the balloting is more stressful.

now, it's not only customer is always right (which doesn't hold water in my opinion)...but ministries are ALWAYS right. don't try to fight the system

I believe the parents need to indicate somewhere on the form. Whether they want to share same ballot ball or not.

DS has a classmate whose twin sister was voluntarily registered into another school (a girls-only school). So it’s not automatic. I don’t think MOE computer can be so smart to detect from their BC numbers whether the kids are singles or twins or triplets etc.
