I think Dr M will replace GST with goods and service tax then increase the price of water to sg to cover For the loss of revenue ( via gst)

I am sure dr M knows the spore govt already making additional 30% more profit on the water sold to its citizens

Anyone watch 焦点 on channel 8 last night?

Mediacorp interviewed Dr. M before the election. He said the water price at 3 sen is too cheap and must be reviewed if he won the GE.

The agreement to sell water to SG for 3 sen that run till 2061.

“before the election” refers to an interview 2 years ago :skeptical:

We buy water at 3sen per 1000gallon. We sell them back at 50sen per 1000gallon. When they raise the water selling price, they will have to pay a higher buying price. :skeptical:
Considering that Johor depends on us to treat part of their water and Singapore is no longer 100% reliant on their water, not sure we should be that bothered. Tun is no mathematician but he can still manage simple arithmetic. He is also a shrewd politician who knows how to whip his electorate to support him.

But for 焦点 to throw out an interview from a long time ago (2 years is a long time in politics)? Probably still trying to do Jib gor a favour.

i think you are not aware that Johor have built their own water treatment plants and need not depend on ours.

the electricity cost for them to treat water is much lower than us as they have own self produced crude oil, natural gas to generate electricity.

indeed, they can sell electricity to us at the rate cheaper than it cost us to produce electricity.

He IS going to recover as much $$$ $$$ $$$ $$$ $$$ $$$ as possible as he was joking abt recovering them fr the bank accounts, in Spore & somewhere in residence of someone in Johore.

All his references are there, whether to reduce country's debt for getting in China Belt or Speed Rail to Spore. It's his 手段 to win the voters heart, apeace them after elected & play around with his protege. Is Rosnah packing u figure?

Most of my friends are damn proud Tun is back at the helm. They're proud of making history with the old man. So, fr M'sians' perspective it's hope for great change. For Tun is giving a big toy to his tod even if he's going to hv heart attack during the height of celebrations!

                  OFF TOPIC.

if Malaysia opposition can pull off a shock victory, it could happen here if people with IQ and EQ join the opposition.
if only our opposition has people who can think and project themselves well, it will be interesting at the next GE.

Definitely, we were not careful to be objective or too emotional. So far, I trust our govt enuf & hv not seen any reliable opp. I made a mistake voting opp in my constituency many may years back & realised my ignorance. Thankfully it was when LKY still ard & opp were weak plus our economy cld still forbear a silly fool like me who wasted one vote. Consider if yr one vote was the one that toppled George Yeo.

We lost a valuable brain in our govt. But recently happy tt he’s playing a part in advising Mynmar govt. That’ll bring our countries closer & good opp for Spore bz

In the grand scheme of things, the votes that brought down George Yeo team turns out to be the right one (but if your votes brought in Cheo Chai Chen and Ling How Doong :scared: ).

Two (good) things happen after Aljunied, PAP changed it’s course. WP got stronger.

The first shows that PAP still has its smarts and are able to adjust its priorities to meet the electorate needs and wants (see the “I’m sorry” speech). Compared that with BN after GE13 - after losing the popular vote, instead of changing, they gotten worst and dig deeper into tricks of the trade like gerrymandering, fake news law, etc. Hence, one remains in power, the other loses power.

The latter is an essential development for Singapore to remain strong and relevant (it may not have to be WP but they seem like the only logical alternative). A strong nation needs a contest of ideas and group think is never a good thing. Someone needs to point out where you did wrong / could do better - we got to be real, no 4G backbencher can / will stand up to Min Shanmugam etc the way WP MPs did. Both parties continue to build (so we aren’t really missing George Yeo after all) and especially for WP, you can see their bench getting stronger and deeper - a good sign for Singapore when more able and quality people get involved in politics (that said, it’s worrying if PAP continue to rely heavily on the civil service, armed forces to provide their pipeline).

There’s a reason we choose to be a democracy. There is no right / wrong for voting for any party. You choose the one that best represent you or against the one that you don’t want to represent you (the lesser of the two evil). If your choice works out, great - you continue to vote for him / her next round (Chiam, Low, etc). If it doesn’t, you choose his / her opponent next time (Cheo, Ling). If our system can’t withstand a change of guards / or allow a change of guards, we have bigger problems on our hands.

I’ll exercise my vote conscientiously & u’re free to exercise your vote the way u want. We both still hv to face the consequences of outcome.

I’ve not seen any fully capable group yet, but it’s a lot of brave hogwash that I see. A lot of debates but action wise it’s a mess in the other house. Trust? I still don’t see how I can trust to cast my vote the other side as I can’t see where it falls amongst their lot of rubbish which the residents at that turf innocently puts in funds. Nepotism? Same since all parties are homo sapiens.
