Hi, I’m one of the pioneer batch of parents. I enrolled my son in West Spring five years ago. Although it was a new school during that time without any proven tracks of academic performance nor curriculum, I believe that being new has its advantages. True enough, five years since his enrollment, my son is still enjoying his primary school life. The school leaders are visionary and experienced in managing the school. The students are always the main focal point when it comes to nourishing their talents and educating them holistically. Teachers in West Spring have been nice and caring in many ways. This has helped them to get through a smooth transition from kindergarten to primary school. West Spring offers modular CCA for students whereby all students get to experience a variety of activities before they are groom according to their potentials. West Spring also practices subject based banding and does not group all the academically good ones in a class. The students’ ability are diverse and dynamic in each class. These are some of the insights that I can share with you. I hope it helps. For further information you may check the school’s website, Facebook and even earlier posted messages from this forum to understand West Spring better.

            Hi all,

Our daughter has secured her admission to West Spring Primary School for P1 2019. :imanangel:
We are looking forward to meet other parents who hv their child's admission here.
The message we got via sms only states to come for Orientation on 2nd January 2019. Would there be any invite for Parents at School prior to this date?? I saw in previous discussion ppl mentioning abt orientation in Nov or Dec. Maybe i am wrong. Would anyone hv any suggestion.

            Thanks,
            Jai Divya

What happened yesterday was not good. My girl came home in tears. She didn’t give her Gep form to teacher. The teacher took her photo and others Kidz late to give the form. The photo was put up on school hall and principal called them to stand on stage and then scolded all of them facing the school. This school likes to shame the students in front of all to teach them a lesson. Very wrong. Very wrong. Today my girl scared to go to school.

My gal told me the same thing. A few of her classmates got their photo taken and shamed on stage. If this is the school way of disciplining, its ridiculous !

Initially, kids were shamed because of latecoming. Now, forget to bring books or submit form also kanna.

Why need to instill such fear in kids?! They are only primary school level. This is unnecessary.

As parents, we often feel very upset when our child faces the consequences for their actions or it could be that they face the consequences for the parent’s action . That is natural but I guess we have to also allow the child to overcome this on their own to have resilience.Nowadays, many children are too protected & not resilient enough as well.

My child took GEP last year. GEP is a programme where the reply slip is very important so that no child is short-changed.

I got to know about the incident through the chat group and I asked my child about it once my child returned home.

My child told me that after repeated reminders, the few students still didn’t hand in the forms & the office staff had to call one by one the parents to remind again.

All the other students in the level responsibly handed in forms & were told to keep up good habit.

So,those few students on stage are ones who had to be reminded & chased before forms finally submitted.Honestly, not easy for school to collect so many forms back when parents & students do not do their part.

The incident was used to educate the students on need to be responsible & to show care for office staff who had extra work calling one by one the parents. As a teacher myself, I know how time-consuming that is.

I always teach my child at home to be responsible & write down what to do or bring & so far,no problem.

I think the school is trying their best to prepare the students to be responsible.

As much as we care for the child, I have seen in many instances that the school cares too & places alot of attention on character development.

Yes they started this ‘shaming’ stuff since 2017. The weird part is that they ‘punish’ the kids for things like acknowledgement forms to any forms not submitted (which I think half the time it is the parents’ fault as we forgot) and most likely not their fault. Honestly, I m wondering what type of values is the school trying to inculcate in the kids, u get punish for Faults not due to you??

This year, some or all schools are to have oral test in the afternoon. My Son submitted the acknowledgement form to General Office and even went to school early to submit the form. Lo and behold, dun know what happen, the form teacher never receive the form. My Son was singled out the next day after oral as one of candidates who ‘did not’ submit form and the form teacher told him he will get zero for his oral results due to this. Can u imagine what a shock my Son got. He was very affected by this as he tried his best in oral and he was to get zero just because the form was not there and not because he did not submit. I had no choice but to write in to the form teacher to explain and tell her not to penalise him for a fault not due to him. :slapshead:

Last year even when one or two kidz late the whole level was punished. All the level not allowed to play recess.
