Imp75, time flies.... I still remember going thru DSA process 2 years ago for my DS and you are also one of the KSP parents then. DS is also looking at S2 subject combination albeit in HCI. All the best!hi parents
My dd is currently in Sec 2 and going to choose her subject combi after EOY.
We have no idea which subjects to choose except that we are certain we are not going to any of the special programs like AEP, HMP, SMTP, HP or BSP.
We know 6 subjects are compulsory and the child can choose the next 2 or 3 more subjects depending on MSG.
I am wondering if parents have any advice what subjects to choose:
- easiest to score?
- least to mug (I know can contradict point 1 though)
- easiest to get in (is there even a enrolment cutoff?)
- most relevant to HCI JC subject combi
btw, anyone knows the upper sec combined humanities/SS compulsory subject comprise of which humanities? -
Hi
Can I find out from any parents here....
For special programmes such as AEP, HMP, SMTP, HP or BSP, is every girl only allowed to choose one or can choose more than one? For example, do HMP and HP.
Thank you for sharing

I think normally a child is allowed to choose one due to subject commitment and schedule.

Each student can only be in either SMTP or HP, and not in both. However, I understand SMTP or HP students can still offer BSP, but not as a SAP scholar. For existing HMP/AEP students, I believe it will be considered as an additional subject if they are in the HP program.Hi

Hi Imp75, I guess the subject choice should be based on the child's passion, strength and aspirations. There are certain criteria to meet to take up advanced subjects or talent programmes. Else, the school will try to match the students to their choices.hi parents

Thanks but passionate about a subject may not bring in the best msg. My dd does well in history but not geog even though she hates history but likes Geog. Same for bio or physics. Wonder which ones should she choose to make the journey to HCI smoother. We are not opting for advanced subjects to keep it manageable.

I think another factor u might want to look into when choosing the subject combination is if there is any pre-requisite for the courses that yr child might be interested in for Uni.
Eg. Some courses may require the student to have taken H2 physics.
If yr child did not take physics in upper Sec, she would not be allowed to take physics in JC.
Biology, History and Geography - there is no such requirement to have taken the same subject in upper Sec before they are allowed to take it in HCI (JC) as far as i know. -
Both Imp75 and lego have their own valid points. Physics/Chem seems to be a better combi than bio/chem in the sense that you can take bio as H2 in HCI (provided you meet some min msg anyway) even if you hadn’t taken bio in sec 3/4, but you can’t take physics as H2 if you hadn’t taken it in sec3/4. I also know of girls who took bio/chem in sec 3, then by end of sec 3 couldn’t meet the min B4, and were asked to drop bio, so left with only one science (chem) in sec 4. Bio also wasn’t the most easy to score science subject in upper level either (sometimes the mean score of a bio test can be 40/100!). So passion would be helpful in such circumstances to pull through difficult times?

@mommyNg
Understand that your child is in RGS.
May I ask - are the girls required to take biology in upper sec before they are allowed to take it in RI or is it optional? -
Thank you parents.
We were contemplating between physics or bio. Heard bio is very content heavy while physics might be a challenge for those not strong in maths.
Similarly any feedback on hist or geog? Which one is more content heavy or diff to score?
