CHIJ St Joseph's Convent

Hi parents, I’m a former student of SJC and have seen posts about the academic results in the school declining. I’d like to add that it’s not at all true. The school has performed relatively well in 2017 for O’Levels.
90% distinction rate for biology, combined science (chem/bio), averaging around 60%-70% distinction rate for other subjects (excluding arts subjects except literature).
Thus, your daughters would definitely be in safe hands!

Ard how many % are from the affliated?
Thanks. -
Hi…
SJC normal acad range is from 194 to 199. But if my child’s agg range is slightly below 194, is she possible to enter SJC?
Anyone care to share?
Thank you. -

It's either you meet the COP, or you don't meet the COP. In this case, she won't meet last year's COP.Hi..

For this year, no one will know the COP until the posting exercise is over. You can always put SJC as your first choice and hope that the COP reduces from last year. As long as the rest of the choices are sensible, i.e. having some that meet her score, you are safe. -

Hi I’m currently a upper sec student from SJC but I’m quite sure parents are quite concerned about letting their children enter this school. I would say I really enjoyed my 3 years here! although the facilities there are only alright. There is night study for upper sec students to attend every week and there’s even a new study room for students to study there after school. Phone usage is prohibited in school unless its the has ended. We have a new principal this year actually. Our school is quite good with English although most students might even be failing it cause the mark scheme is strict but you’ll definitely see better results at O’s. Biology is also one our stronger subjects. The teachers are really kind and don’t mind consultations after school. There’s open house every year after getting back PSLE grades (at least for me) for people to see the school and get to know the school a bit more like the results. When i received my PSLE score i was really sad cause i definitely could not get into st. nicholas so i did some research and found sjc. Although the school campus isn’t big but i guess it gives off a feeling of a second home? I guess that was the main reason I chose this school over st. theresa.

Thank you for sharing. SJC sits well in my view as one of the top and undervalued Catholic secondary schools.

Hi I am currently in sec 5 for a month waiting for pfp posting and I have an advice for parents with kids in CHIJ St. Joseph's Convent. If you would like to save some money when buying new books every year for your child, you can ask your child to visit the school library to check if the books they need are available there. When the seniors graduate and have many school books that are no longer of any use to them, they either throw the books away or pass them to their juniors. A third option is that they bring the books back to school and leave them in the library for other students to use. The school library has two doors, go in by the one beside the toilet with the water cooler and walk straight to the back of the shelves where the windows are. There is a shelf at the back displaying a variety of subject books and Chinese dictionaries. These books are not owned by the school as they were left there by former students, not donated, so the subject books are all free to take, no scanning or checkout needed. When it's sec 1 orientation, I'm not sure if the library will be open, but if it is you can ask the staff if you can take the books. Me and my sister are leaving some books there for the future batches, so I hope this tip would help you save some money on school books.
