Im registering my child this year at holy innocents primary sch under phrase 2a2, as i am an old boy. However we are thinking of monitoring nan chiau under phrase 2c as the school is within walking distance <1km.

What are the chances? Nan chiau already has 144 slots taken under phrase 1.

No need to waste time monitoring. Guaranteed balloting for SC < 1km.

Therefore, you have to decide whether giving up a confirmed place in a school is worth it for a shot in the dark.

Just hoping lesser applications for 2c, hence increasing odds for balloting.
If you do not have a bird in hand, you would want lesser applications so that your odds will increase.
However, you have different considerations. As you have a bird in hand, this is no longer about improving the odds but whether you are willing to give up something (Phase 2A2 place) in exchange for a chance, knowing that you can still end up with the short end of the stick.

There is fewer children compared to last year (-8%), but the vacancy also decreased, so net-net not much difference.

I did an analysis of my own comparing 2018 vs 2019, of the vacancies available for Phase 2, with % change.

https://just2me.com/2019/07/06/results-after-phase-1-of-primary-school-registration/

And also ranked the hottest 30 school from Phase 1 :torchme:

Hi Parents,

wanted to check where to get the info of Phase 1 of Red Swastika School (RSS)?
am considering RSS and Temasek Primary

but Temasek Primary is popular this year for 2020 admission with 104 taken up in P1 phase and they had reduced intake.... i had done Parent Volunteer for Temasek for Phase 2B but likely got to ballot for it

So thinking if really reach Phase 2C which one got higher chances?
im <1km for RSS
im >1km to <2km for Temasek

seeking all of your gracious advices

thanks!

If Temasek requires balloting for Phase 2B, then it is unlikely that you will be given a chance in Phase 2C as it will then be balloting for SC < 1km. Otherwise, under normal conditions, there's a likelihood that balloting for SC between 1 and 2km.

RSS will definitely ballot for SC < 1km.

Hence, if you end up facing a ballot in Phase 2B and miss out, you will have no choice but to go for the ballot with RSS, or look for another option.

Thank You Floppy!

Thank you @samwize, this is very useful! Suggestion on UX, if you could add a filter, it would be even more brilliant :imcool: :salute:

Is there any way besides calling the school to find out if there was balloting required for St Andrews Junior in Phase 2B last year? And if yes, was balloting done for less than 1km, 1-2km or more than 2km?

At the moment it looks like CHIJ TPY 2B is a balloting for >2km and SCGS balloting for <1km.
It will be clearer at the end of 2A2 for TPY and end of 2B for SCGS.

Thank you Lexy. Looks like it’s similar to previous years. So it seems every year is almost the same probabilities,,,
