Go for ICR! I am a fan of the phonics programme. My girl was in L central for 1.5 years and still could not read. That was eventhough the class size was very small, somehow her class slot was not popular and I was still so happy about her getting more attention. Within half a year of switching to I Can Read, she was able to blend and read words. That’s when I realise class size does not matter. The structure of phonics learning ICR is much better. In less than a year, she could read simple books. Since then, she has been an avid reader. Although she was only there for 2 years, it is a world of difference and I believe is reason why she loves reading. I did take her out of ICR after half a year into her Primary One year as their primary programme is not as effective. But if you are considering between Lcentral and ICR, ICR reading classes are definitely money well-spent!
Any reviews for L central, jan and elly and the play squad? -

Totally agree! The teacher makes the biggest difference! We can go to a famous brand name centre with fancy worksheets, but if the teacher does not genuinely care about our kids' progress, then kiddos also won't improve. Once bitten twice shy!
Hi zephyrfei, I don't understand why you want to send your child to a school to prepare her for ICL? Your child may have problem adapting to new school/environment if you change her from one school to another. As I've said earlier, ICL program is very demanding. Reading books every night to your child is a must. Flashing their flashcards 2-3 times per day is a must. Completing the scrapbook homework is another must. If you think you can afford the time and are committed to do all the above, then go ahead. If not, I would suggest you to look for other programs. Yes, too many to choose from. Actually after trying a few, I realised sometimes it's a matter of luck also. If you don't get a good teacher, any \"best\" school is also useless.zephyrfei:
I'm thinking of register my child born in 2009 for the ICL program. But it only start from 4 years old. Will it be too late for a child from a non-english spoken family? We never speak English at home. By the time she goes to ICL, she'll be in full-day child care for 1 year, I estimate. Is it necessary to send her to some other program before she start to learn in ICL?
Could anybody give me some advice please? Thanks in advance.
Hope this helps.
This is why I always prefer smaller centres and if possible, one that is taught by the founders themselves. Less money-minded and more results. Because they MUST make sure my kids improve so I can continue and bring them more business. Like they say, it is matter of luck too. We got very lucky at 2nd try.

I saw the materials from TLL for Pri 1 before. The kids just copied the sentences given, picture by picture at P1. How old is your Son?

Hi Holistic Parenting,
After many attempts of putting her in different phonics classes and teachers. we finally got a teacher who can truly connect with my child. She was patient loving and an excellent phonics teacher. her patience has helped my child to improve in such a short time. Me and my husband, after believe me, many attempts felt we found a versatile teacher who can really relate to a child so I think it is only good to share her with many more of our children.[/quote]
can you PM me about the info of this teacher?
Thanks

Yes. There are at least a dozen of “fake parents” advertising for TLL and Xin Zhong Wen.

Frankly speaking, some are really so obvious…I don’t know if they know it.

Can't be 光明正大? must resort to such means? Reputable centres some more. -
My god! So fake! I heard TLL standard has dropped already. My friend’s daughter P6 enrolled into TLL for English & Science, the improvement is not noticeable. They did teach some exam tips which help, but not really much helping on learning the language and deep understanding the knowledge.
