I have a really dumb question to ask. How to reply directly to people’s remarks here. I ended up just posting my comments separately, n missed speaking to the right people.
For example, where do you find the button to reply directly to my question now?
Click the ( \" reply with quote) icon on the TOP RIGHT SIDE of the person's post when you post your reply.. get it?

Ever wonder what kind of example parents setting for the kids - ok to flout the school rules? What kind of values parent trying to teach 12yr olds? Can suka suka go holidays, suka suka stay home, go play truant, etc.

Quote the article on hp usage: \"Children can learn that they have to bear the consequences of their actions, and avoid repeating the same mistake in the future. They can also appreciate the importance of values like responsibility, respect and self-control.\"
I think it's important for parents to at least let the school know first before taking out their kids or hols. I have came across parents who just let their kids absent from school with no explanation to the school (MIA).

My son stopped reading Chinese books at about P3, but I finally managed to revive his interest.. Now at secondary one, he is reading not only his English novels, but also Chinese martial arts novels frequently. First time in 4 years, he heard a Chinese school teacher telling him, “You are very good at Chinese language.. I can tell you are having fun with it..” hopefully my personal anecdotes helps you to find useful ways for your kids. Let me know if u enjoy reading.

Your son's teacher is so encouraging. :salute:
I think the right books that kids like will fuel or spark their interest in the language.
My son likes comics, so I bought those Chinese comics that he has interest in. My son will :siam: if he reads Chinese novels. lol. :slapshead:

It is such a great opportunity to be travelling in Oct, think autumn and off peak rates. In fact, after PSLE seems to be the only window to travel during this period.

Thank you Giggle 1, I am really glad you enjoyed reading and want to do more for your kids.

I have been thinking of compiling a list of recommended books for SG-English speaking parents .. haven’t found the time to do so.

In the meantime, I think the best way is to search along the child’s interest and abilities.. when my son was younger, I was always on the look-out in the library n Bookstores for books that I think match his interest.. so when I recognised my son loved hilarious stories n insects, I found books with silly dialogues n illustration and increase the difficulty very gradually.

Share with me your child’s interest n a snap shot of a page that shows his comfortable reading level, meaning he will be willing to pick the book up n read. Then pm me, my contact is in my blog. I will be happy to see if I can at least help you to get started with the first book. Cheers to your efforts.
