Hi phtthp, thanks for your encouragement and assurance. The only plan I have is to get over this end of year exams. Now that you mention, i agree that it’s useful to plan ahead. At the moment, I am working with my daughter to work out a study plan. We tried to plan a timetable but so far, she rarely stick to it as there are several group projects. So I thought planning goals might help. For example, other than to complete the homework to be submitted the next day, she needs to complete certain additional tasks before her day ends. At least she gets something done at the end of the day. Not sure how effective but we will try it out.
Early this year, the school has sent out the promotion criteria for year 1 & 2 IP. But there was no mention on the criteria for Sec 3 subject combination. Maybe the school will let us know next year..
I am not in any SCGS IP parents chat group. I didn’t know there was something like this.
I assume you have kids in IP as well? How is she coping? Does she have difficulty in the beginning in terms of adjusting to the nature of IP program? And how did you go about helping/ guiding her?phtthp\" post_id=\"1993514\" time=\"1599024243\" user_id=\"35251:

Hi, time passes so quickly. The EOY exams is starting real soon. My gal is starting to feel stress preparing for exams...
My girl had gotten an average overall score of 78% for her CA1. But I Guess that’s because it was still the honeymoon transition period from Primary School and as such, the test papers were relatively easy.
I have seen my girl doing her homework conscientiously and revising for her tests. Nonetheless, for CA3, her grades dropped. I did an estimated calculation of her average score and I think it should range from 67% to about 72%. I am not sure but does this means she isn’t coping well? Or she isn’t revising effectively? I don’t know the average score for her class but I heard that there are girls failing a few subjects.
In subjects like History and Geography, how do I help her in preparing for open-ended questions? I can’t remember the terms used. For History, I think it’s SBQ and SEQ.
If someone with experience can share with me on how to help my child prepare for End of Year exams, I would really appreciate that. She tried requesting for past year papers from the seniors but didn’t managed to get any. And she told me she couldn’t find them in the library either.
I am feeling anxious and a bit stress that I couldn’t be of much help at the moment.....
(67% to 72%) overall, fall under (B3 to A2) band, is considered good.
That means, for each of her IP Year 1 subjects so far, if you were to \"average\" out,
she is scoring either A1 or A2 or B3, per IP subject, inclusive of her IP project work assignments (If any).
Hence, she is able to sustain a Total overall percentage, of (67 % to 72%) range,
Ie. falling into (B3 to A2 range), overall. No worry, your daughter is coping fine, in her Year 1 (IP). Keep it up ! Thumbs up
Total, there are four SCGS Sec 1 IP classes.
Do you have SCGS Secondary students' manual ?
Maybe your daughter can approach her fellow classmates or ask her class Form Tr, where to see this IP students' manual ?
Is it inside their students' school diary, or inside one of their students' login website pages ?
Are you inside any SCGS IP parents whatsapp chat group ?
Any of the parents in your chatgroup know, or aware of, where to see this type of Assessment promotion criteria, eg. from IP (Year 1, what's the promotion criteria, into Year 2) ?
E.g.
Must pass English + what other subjects ?
Also,
this same time next year (Year 2), your daughter having reached end of Year 2, will select Sec 3 subject combination.
Inside the manual (If have), will specify the criteria
say, for example,
if you want to take up Year 3 Humanities (be it History or Geography or English Literature), did the instructions manual say, for example, minimum require an A2 or need a B3, before can take up Year 3 ( History or Geography, etc), something like that ?
With the road map in front of you, you will have a clearer picture, can plan better, your goals & objective.
Get your daughter to set goals & objective for herself, per IP subject, so that she is the driver herself, sitting at the driver seat.
Out of four IP SCGS classes, available
- how many, are allocated (set aside) for Triple Pure Science classes (IP), cum Double Humanities, combination ?
and
- how many, are allocated for Double Sciences classes (IP), cum Double Humanities, combination ?
(do not need to reply me openly in this forum, about how many classes are being allocated )
After year-end Assessment is over in September 2020,
you can contact your daughter's class Form Tr, try to arrange a virtual online PMT (parents Meet Tr) session, with her IP subject Teachers whom you wish to meet up with via Zoom technology, to clarify any concern which you have or obtain feedback from them, about your daughter's learning progress this IP Year 1, or any other aspects of her. -

perhaps, you may want to join your own IP class parents' chat-group, so that can touch base with fellow like-minded Secondary Year 1 parents, on common ground interests, similar educational discussion issue (topic) ?
I am not in any SCGS IP parents chat group. I didn’t know there was something like this.
You may approach your daughter's class Form Tr, if she is currently already an enrolled pupil, studying inside SCGS. Form Tr can help to connect you with the relevant designated Parent-personnel-in-charge, of the parents whatsapp group.
In Secondary schools,
normally there are 2 type of parents' chat group, can join.
1) at the entire IP level
That means,
since there are four IP SCGS classes, parents from these 4 IP classes, can join the parents' chat group, so that anything of concern regarding IP topic, across entire level, all parents inside the loop, stay alert.
2) at the individual class level.
That means, any happening of concern inside your own IP class, you can stay updated, in tune -

Why?
Hi, time passes so quickly. The EOY exams is starting real soon. My gal is starting to feel stress preparing for exams.
Because she didnt do well for CA3?
Is she worried about promotion or worried about not getting all As?
Or is she stressed because she doesnt understand the lessons?
I think you should find out the causes of her stress in order to help her. -
Hihi, knowing her, I believe she is worried for both. she thinks and believes she didn’t do well in general for CA3. But of course, she says no one in her class knew what the average benchmark was. From day 1, they were told that IP pass is 60%. So from her perspective, she is at borderline. Furthermore, to get into SCGS, the girls are usually at least above average in their primary school, which means their average percentage is 85% and above. As such, to my daughter, she sees it as a tremendous drop in results, although she is aware that the number of subjects she has to do now is much more.
She is also worried about not having enough time for revision. I am trying to help her understand and analyse open ended questions but I think she worries too much that nothing gets to her. Hoping for the best..MerlionInGermany\" post_id=\"1993595\" time=\"1599099026\" user_id=\"2964:

Thank you. My girl would want to apply for all girls school (offering O levels) and SCGS is closest to home with one straight bus.
Yes, they have both O and IP, interestingly both cut-off points the sameDavischew\" post_id=\"1987586\" time=\"1595604920\" user_id=\"132882:
Hi, may I know if SCGS have dual track? I prefer my child to sit for O levels and have the option to choose between JC or Poly later. Thanks
With no open house this year due to covid19, it will be hard to learn more on the school. Need to read up from page one of this thread.
Any idea how many malays (roughly)? Less than 5 I guess?
Hi, my kid is in Sec 1 this year and you're right, there are 4 malay girls in the cohort. Hope this helps. -

Hi chujoe,
Hi, time passes so quickly. The EOY exams is starting real soon. My gal is starting to feel stress preparing for exams. I didn’t know how to help her because she is my first born and I didn’t have friends with kids in SCGS IP track. So I am hoping to get some help from this forum.

I hear you. I'm beginning to think that I've slightly underestimated the prep and work that needs to go in to the EOY exams.. my girl is in Sec 1 IP and although the workload has increased from when she was in pri school last year, she has been coping well with the load and hasn't shown much signs of stress until just very recently last week and today when she was visibly upset that she hasn't completed all her assignments.
I reached out to her form teacher by email to keep an eye out for her, which she did today and I was appreciative.
I will be trying to communicate with her more during these next few weeks to see if I can help her more in how to cope and manage the exams. All the best! -
Hi Parents of kids already in SCGS.
Can I ask what are the available subjects combi the schools offers for sec 3 O-level track? -
Hi there, yes! Same here! My girl was struggling to get her assignments done and has been working till late night. Fortunately she managed to sleep slightly earlier this week.
She has been going through her notes, doing her revisions etc but she is telling me she is far from being ready for EOY... quite worrying.
I hope your girl is coping the pressure well because coming week is the real battle. I believe she will because she has a supportive mum. 😊thepeak\" post_id=\"1995146\" time=\"1600165851\" user_id=\"89823:
