St Nicks O level grading is according to O level A1, A2, B3, B4, etc.
Hi, can anyone share how the exam grading system works? They are graded A1, A*, B and so on... while some other schools use GPA system..
Thank you.
St Nicks IP grading is not.
Edited to add, looks like you are already in the school, so wont your report show the grades? Our report book came back last week. You mean you want to know the marks range for each grade? Is it? -

for both the dual track
(IP affliated to Eunoia JC
as well as
O-level affliated to Catholic Junior College) curriculum,
our Secondary school's grading (marking) system, including all IP projects' and assignment work submitted to Teachers, follow that of our SEAB GCE \"O\" level marking system. That is,
A1 : 75 to 100 %
A2 : 70 to 74 %
B3 : 65 to 69 %
B4 : 60 to 64 %
C5 : 55 to 59 %
C6 : 50 to 54 %
D7 : 45 to 49 %
E8 : 40 to 44 %
F9 : 0 to 39 %
In the final EYA (end-of-year Assessment),
at Lower Secondary ,
students from both the (IP and O-level) track, take the same identical, examination papers for subjects (below)
- English composition (Paper 1)
- Mathematics
- Science
- Higher Chinese
(for O-level curriculum students, who are taking HCL)

IP and O level same grading with A1, A2, B3...?
Really?
EOY paper for both O and IP in lower sec for the above subjects the same?
Wow! -

To clarify your 1st question :
Teaching pedagogy is very different, between ( IP vs. O-level ) curriculum.
As such,
Project and team work assignments, learning exposure differ. They are Not the same, so don't get confused.
To clarify your 2nd question :
When come to Lower Secondary EYA,
only certain Theory written subject exam papers content, are identical.
Take note.
NOT for All subjects. -

I was referring to what you wrote. It seems to imply that “the school’s grading system of IP......follows the O level marking system”. Is that what your kid got in the report book?

replying your question -
As mentioned,
the teaching pedagogy of ( IP vs O level ) is different.
Pedagogy :
refer to the teaching deliverance method or teaching approach
Example
Let’s take one single Humanities subject to illustrate (discuss), say, IP Year 1 subject History.
Throughout the whole year, since the beginning of January until now (September), how many Term have passed so far ?
3 Term
So, based on past 3 Term of work done so far, including
- via HBL (home-based learning at home)
- via F2F (face-to-face lessons conducted, inside St Nick school premises)
- All your projects submitted,
- All the Performance Tasks done,
- all your presentation work done, just for this subject IP (History) alone,
plus
- all the written Theory Assessment Tests that you have sat for :
In Term 1 (February month),
In Term 3 (August month),
+ Term 2 (MOE announced to public, skip exam, due to covid-19 Circuit breaker in place) -
what you do ?
Add up the Total score, for Humanities subject, Year 1 IP History.
What is your final score, then ?
If your final score (History)
a) were to fall into (75 to 100) marks range, then this IP Year 1 St Nick student, will see an "A1"
for (History), reported inside her report card, when she asked her parents to sign the Report card at home.
b) were to fall into (70 to 74) marks range, then IP student will see "A2" reported, inside Report card.
c) were to fall into (65 to 69) marks range, see "B3" reported.
d) were to fall into (60 to 64) marks range, then this IP student will see a "B4" grade, recorded inside her Report card, for her History subject.
e) were to fall into (55 to 59) marks range, then this IP student will see a "C5" grade, recorded inside her Report card, for her subject History.
Likewise, repeat the same method of computation (calculation), for
your 2nd Humanities IP subject : Geography, plus
your 3rd Humanities IP subject : English Literature, plus
All your other core, fundamental subjects like
- Higher Chinese (compulsory, for IP students)
- English
- Mathematics and
- Science -

This will never happen. Full stop.
If your final score (History)
a) were to fall into (75 to 100) marks range, then this IP Year 1 St Nick student, will see an \"A1\"
for (History), reported inside her report card, when she asked her parents to sign the Report card at home.
b) were to fall into (70 to 74) marks range, then IP student will see \"A2\" reported, inside Report card.
c) were to fall into (65 to 69) marks range, see \"B3\" reported.
d) were to fall into (60 to 64) marks range, then this IP student will see a \"B4\" grade, recorded inside her Report card, for her History subject.
c) were to fall into (55 to 59) marks range, then this IP student will see a \"C5\" grade, recorded inside her Report card, for her subject History. -
Thanks both phtthp and MerrionInGermany for your replies.
Im just confused that's all.
Im not comparing wif other schools just quoting that from what I heard they used GPA, so i just wanted to clarify e grading in relation to how they score.
It's clear now.
Thanks again.
Stay safe everyone. -
Any parents with DD that had DSA into St Nicks via bilingualism domain can share their DD experience? In particular, what are the activities/projects/subjects that your DD must go through towards the DSA commitment? Is the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) like NYGH where the student needs to apply (year 3) and admission is based on merit? Any comment on the difference between the bilingualism programme for St Nicks vs NYGH? Just want some sensing before deciding on the commitment.

Dear parents,
Would like to find out if Talent Development programme such as “Science Talent Development Programme” is open for both O and IP students?
Thanks in advance! -

BSP is by invitation. Invitation is based on exam results of specific subjects and overall Sec 2 grade.

BSP Scholarship is by invitation, followed by selection.
