Any parents with DD that had DSA into St Nicks via bilingualism domain can share their DD experience? In particular, what are the activities/projects/subjects that your DD must go through towards the DSA commitment? Is the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) like NYGH where the student needs to apply (year 3) and admission is based on merit? Any comment on the difference between the bilingualism programme for St Nicks vs NYGH? Just want some sensing before deciding on the commitment.

        Dear parents,

Would like to find out if Talent Development programme such as “Science Talent Development Programme” is open for both O and IP students?

        Thanks in advance!

BSP is by invitation. Invitation is based on exam results of specific subjects and overall Sec 2 grade.
BSP Scholarship is by invitation, followed by selection.

Not 100% sure but I think it is open to both O and IP. If not, they would have to specify it on the website right? If it is only for one specific stream, not stating this on the website would be misleading. But then again, best to ask the school if it is important to you.

Thanks! I also think that it should be open for both O and IP. Not very critical just wanted to find out the differences between O and IP track apart from all the factors discussed earlier.

I thought BSP/ CLEP was by application but subject to grade criteria & teachers' recommendations.
The MOE BSP/ CLEP scholarships are open to Sg citizens already in the BSP/ CLEP program and are subject to even more criteria.

So I went to ask a sec 3 2020 in the BSP, just in case my memory failed me. She confirmed that BSP in St Nicks is by invitation. I dont know what you mean by BSP and MOE BSP. If I am not wrong, BSP is an MOE program, therefore BSP is MOE BSP. But within the students in MOE BSP, there will be a group who are MOE BSP Scholars. So instead of writing MOE BSP and MOE BSP Scholars, I simply refer to them as BSP students and BSP Scholars.

I think in Nanyang, both BSP and BSP Scholarship are by application but if you think about it, it is the same as by invitation, since the result of the application in Nanyang, is based on criteria such as grades and teachers’ recommendations. So if you dont meet one or both, you dont get in also. Isnt it the same as by invitation? To get invited, you meet some criteria. So it is just a matter which step comes first. If you get MSG 3 in Nanyang for eg and you apply and dont get in, vs you get MSG 3 equivalent in St Nicks and you wont be invited so you dont get in. Both way, the girl with MSG 3 will not end up in the program. By invitation takes away the disappointment, I guess?

Do you happen to know (roughly) how many students are in BSP each year at St Nicks? And how this would compare to size of BSP at NYGH, DHS, and SCGS (which will join with SNGS/CHS at EJC)? Just curious where this program is most popular on the girls' side (recognize 3 of the 4 schools are SAP).

Both my kids are in (different) schools which offer the BSP.

For sure, not all BSP students are BSP scholars. Many opt not to take up the BSP scholarship, for various reasons; others do not qualify for the BSP scholarship.
In some schools, pursuing BSP does mean "giving up" the opportunity to read other special programmes. So students will have to make choices.
I actually wonder if interest in programmes like BSP will be affected by Covid-19 as travel restrictions if not caution, will be around for a long time.

                        No, I do not know.
It is not meaningful to do this comparison because the programs available in each school are different (where they can only choose one), and the cohort size can differ by as much as 2.x times. Plus, it doesnt show anything because there will be those who qualify but do not want to join and those who want to join but do not qualify. So just by looking at the number alone, cannot tell whether or not it is popular.

Girls in RV can also be in BSP if I am not mistaken, just for completeness of your list above.
