Sports as part of PE will be compulsory, but it's non-competitive. Sports CCA - usually it's people clamouring to get in and complaining that the selection is too stringent! So if your daughter doesn't want to do a sports CCA, that's not a problem.
Do all the girls need to do sports a lot like competition? My girl is not good at sports. -
Can anyone advise on the environment in Rgs? Caring n sharing among girls or competitiveness observed. Will gals from underprivileged families be looked down ,looking forward to genuine opinions. Thank you very much.

My girl studies, makes notes and shares with her friends. Maybe she is not the competitive type, but I didn’t hear anything from her about observed competitiveness. The girls are generally self-driven, self-motivated, respectable and fun-loving, but not mean to each other. Nobody asks or talks about their family background. At least not that she had encountered. We are grateful for “sisters in learning and sisters at heart”. The friendships and bond that she made are invaluable. Our experience is that it has been a really fine school.

Glad to hear that. A few days ago, I attended RGS's Virtual Open House. There was a question that asked about making friends and competitiveness in RGS. The Deputy Principal, Centre for Pedagogical Research & Learning and Community Engagement shared that competitiveness need not be relatively a negative thing. In fact, all RGS girls are competitive because they know what they want and they strive for it. A few years back, when I accompanied my niece to see RGS Open House, I vividly remembered that one of the girls there fell during a performance or something like that. The thing that I saw 'warmed the cockles of my heart'. The other girls were very quick to help her to her feet and brought her somewhere else. Even though I don't have any children in RGS (my daughter joining soon, so hopefully next time I can say \" I have a daughter in RGS\"

Hi. I am a FAS student in rgs. No one looks down on me so don't need to worry about that. Only thing is outing. Sometimes my friends do go out pretty often and I may not have enough pocket money to join them. But it's ok. We meet up online to play games together. The in-game now is \"Among us\"

Caring - yes

Competitiveness - yes, but not pressure cooker type.
Underprivileged concerns - look at my forum nick. My reply, \"no\". -
The main thing is to find the "nice" people to be friends with. In any school, especially one as big as RGS, there are bound to be people you don’t like, can’t get along with, etc. My daughter also made a lot of good friends in school, and she just avoided the few who were not so nice.
Some girls are well-to-do and not used to having to keep to a limited budget. Some realise this and will adjust, others may not, so you have to choose your company. One girl in my daughter’s group of friends was on an even tighter budget than my girl (who was on the 2nd-tightest budget of that group) - and they all accommodated the one with the tightest budget. The ones that wouldn’t accommodate just didn’t join that group. -
Thank you so much for valuable feedback. How’s the support from teachers and the school? So sorry , having so much queries…
St Nick is also our next choice , so comparing the environment… -
RGS being an institution for the higher ability girls, the Teachers tend to encourage independent learning. So the school expects the girls to engage in self learning. But the Teachers do organise sup classes if required. My girl does not have any tuition this year, and probably due to HBL, she was able to “survive” the year 1 without much of an issue.

Hi!
I would like to find out more about the 3rd Language commitment and whether there are transport arrangements for these students at rgs to MOELC for year 1… my child is keen to take either Spanish or Japanese. Appreciate any input, thank you!
Btw,… Which literature books are taught in year 1?
