Is SMPS using temp address for measuring distance or permanent address? I don't recall many housing near the permanent site. And to those who hv chosen SMPS now, be prepared for long traffic jam along the single lane road to the sch every morning, it could take 30min on that stretch of road alone.

MOE always uses the perm address (in this case Wilkie Road) for calculation.

There aren't many high density housing near the perm site, hence, it will be difficult for SMPS to see balloting within 1km, unless their alumni or church affiliated applicants come in big numbers. 1-2km is possible albeit challenging. There needs to be sufficient interest but the Newton / Novena / Farrer Park people have a lot of bright, shiny options to choose from.

Considering SMSS is a 24x school and affiliated pri sch can get in at 200 and above, I think its a good deal.[/quote]I think it is, but I can understand why people may have chosen to overlook it when it’s in a temp site.

Could have added that SMSS is also an autonomous school and it is close to 180 years old, ie the oldest girls school in SEA (not just Singapore). The school has all the ingredients in place to drive towards being a top tier school if it wants to, but I suspect it may not be in sync with their ethos.

It’s just unfortunately suffering from 2nd class syndrome simply because it’s not an IP school. For non-SAP in the centre of SG, most girls would pick RGS, Cedar, NJC…and then if can’t get IP/prefer OP, choose Crescent Girls.

I think it’s similar to how Nan Hua High is overlooked by many in the West, who hanker after RVHS for the IP status, or NUS High.

just to ask ard, do you think MOE will release ballot result earlier than expected? It is after all computerize ballot and since it has finalized the application and checking why it cannot be faster?

These are like goods where demand goes UP when the price goes UP. What is cooler to win; a ballot at 1.1:1 or 3:1-5:1? :imcool:

Given there is not much risk (many of these areas have plenty of spaces in other relatively nearby schools during 2CS), I guess now I understand why the cycle/behavior persists...

Unlikely. They have never done so earlier than they specified date. No reason why they would suddenly become more compassionate this year.

While we wait with bated breath 😉 for the 2C balloting result, thought some people might be interested in knowing which are the schools that are heavily oversubscribed.

I did a https://littlereddotdata.wordpress.com/2021/08/15/phase-2c-catching-fire/ and it should be to nobody surprise that the names (65%) are nearly identical 😂 Also, it's not just elite (i.e. GEP, SAP) schools that are oversubscribed, a number of them are 'neighbourhood' schools. Parents do not seem to be deterred or put off from applying to these schools, even when the odds of getting a place in the school is low. Part of the reason has been https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=91589&start=770#p2034259, i.e. there's no 'lost' if there's a need to register in Phase 2CS since the options in Phase 2CS are almost same-same as the alternatives in Phase 2C.

Any 2CS movers and shakers? I.e. now/not available in 2021? Dramatic change in seats available?

From the link I do think this is a good quote (for those who are balloting):
\"When one door closes, another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.\"

                      Since you ask...

                      https://i.postimg.cc/kG4RCDQS/Gg-U4f-phase-2cs-movers-amp-shakers.png\">

I only stick to the top / bottom 10.

                      Some possible explanations:

Telok Kurau and Townsville 'improvement' are due to merger with Eunos and Guangyang respectively (hence, Phase 1 will include siblings of students from both merged schools). In addition, both schools have reduced the overall number of places available (240 to 220 and 210 to 190) despite the merger. Interestingly, the other school set to merge in 2022, Farrer Park (not shown on the table), do not exhibit similar behaviour. Farrer Park has also increased their overall places available (from 180 to 220).

Angsana Primary will be relocating to a new campus by June 2022. What did we say about Singaporeans liking new, shiny thing?

Valour is a new school, as well as a MK school. Phase 1 numbers have yet to stabilise and MK Phase 2A are appearing for the first time.

Northoaks, Kranji and Si Ling are schools with reduced overall places (down by 30 each).

Naval Base is quite a turnaround! From having seats in Phase 2CS to balloting for SC < 1km within 1 year. However, it's probably not that surprising. Considering the number of new housing development along Yishun Ave 1, it's just a matter of time. Can draw certain parallels with Kheng Cheng (and housing at Toa Payoh Crest) that were discussed a couple of posts earlier (except that Kheng Cheng usually ballots in Phase 2C in one form or another).

                      Marymount? 😉

Schools with increased places? Let me think, over my sleep :rotflmao:

Top 10 schools with increased vacancy for Phase 2CS:

Contrary to many people's belief (have?), schools are not necessarily in this position due to lower interest in the school.

Most schools are in this position because they have increased their overall vacancies from previous year but the demand hasn't kept up. 8 out of 10: Woodlands Ring, Bedok Green, Fuchun, Seng Kang, West Grove, Bendemeer, Xingnan, Coorporation and Damai, have increased their overall intake by 30 or 40 each. Montfort has increased the number of P1 places by 60 places and Xingnan by a whooping 90 places!

If Montfort and Xingnan have kept to the same overall intake as last year, they wouldn't have made this list (TBF, same for most of the schools named in the previous para).

TL;DR - there are lies, damned lies and statistics.
In terms of demand / actual signups, most schools are actually doing better, or about the same as last year if they have not increased the size of their intake.
