      @zac-s-mum

      I think most guys like history especially the two World Wars. When my DH was younger, he too liked all these. But as he grew older, he better understood the bloodshed and tremendous suffering behind the world wars which saddened him, so he is less into it now. Sometimes, behind the principled talk and moral high ground, the reality of why wars take place is less than idealistic and sordid even. Like the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, one wonders whether the escalation of the war is just a way for the prime minister to stay in power to avoid facing corruption charges.

      I know of one History graduate friend. He works as an Analyst. His job would involve putting up reports on what should his company do if Israel blows up Iran’s nuclear plant !! Quite an interesting job, I would say.

        @chenlaoshi Thanks for the shout-out to @ChiefKiasu … I have checked a number of old mega threads, most of them stopped at the time range of around 24-27 May 2013 and are unable to see any updates afterwards. Feeling quite sad that more than 10 years of valuable information and contribution from parents are not showing up, but I am sure Chief Kiasu is more worried than me 🥲

        the data still exist somewhere in the cyberspace though… if google "old KSP forum [+ keyword], you can find the old threads but I dunno how long will this data be stored.

            @bbbay thank u! I found the video very interesting to watch. I didnt know the childhood background of 孔子. The speaker used it to illustrate “只要你用对方法, 历史是无穷知会的宝库。。。我始终深信:教育的目的,是让人做知识的主人,不是让人做知识的奴仆。”

            My DS was just telling me last night: “Did u know Plato said ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war?’ The great philosophers were highly interested in history, not just for the facts, but for the bigger philosophical observations that can be applied to life.”

            I had never been interested in History, but now my own child is teaching me interesting things about it, and how they are linked to philosophy, even literature (song lyrics as well - Sabaton is a fav band) and also political ideology.

            Sharing with your DS this old movie adapted from Tom Clancy’s political thriller novel. For his entertainment. About a historian adviser to US president. How this historian help adverted a world war with his interest in studying USSR’s president’s life history. This movie site pushes alots of advert to you. It’s free movie I suppose it’s ok.

                  DH has been to Xi An and he likes it because he is someone who likes historical stuff. One can get to see 兵马俑 (probably not my cup of tea!), the Han tombs, and even visit 华山

                  I have heard of someone being cheated by posts from XHS. Paid the “tour guide” deposit for hotel/transport but when reach China, couldn’t find that person-in-charge. Good reviews can be fake.
                  So do be careful !!

                  Yep, those on xhs, TikT post not always true .though China is generally safe according to dh, he said it is quite safe for a solo female to wander in Xi’an city with the public transport in day time . but for tour either do yourself , take train then get cabby thru the transport App or get hotel for day trip , too many scam out there n we are unsure are the drivers safe or not by those small online trips etc . Those day trips fr sg site are alright

                    @lee_yl thank u! Will ask DS to research on those. He is aiming for Pure History next year cos he is heavily into WWI and II history, as well as European history. If there’s historical significance i’m sure he will want to drop by. We are not really into architecture side of things. Munich i am willing to bring him there because i can have some scenic day trips for hiking.

                    I think pure History covers more into sg/ msia n region .whereas Elective History covers Eu war eg holocaust , Korea war etc more interesting.
                    I m not history buff too , but my trip to Rome, Florence last yr changed my view. It is history alive ! all the old era mankind is full of wisdom n intelligence , the way the architecture was done / built . That made me has interest in the next thousand yrs stuff 兵马勇.i just wanna see n at least gain some knowledge 😛

                      I enjoy my alone time in the early mornings because my wife typically doesn’t wake up that early.

                        @MyPillow I’ve always loved history, but mostly the social and cultural aspects. I didn’t like studying history because it seemed to mostly about wars!
                        Most of my history has been learned through reading novels!
