Good luck janet_lee88.. ..Hi mummies,
I hope to ramp up my gal's hanyu pinyin during the march holiday, as well as the other 2 subjects. She needs some serious attention as I've neglected her bcos of son's CA. Wish me luck.
My P2 DS need some 'tuning' this coming March holidays too.. ..

Hope to help clarify on tone marks.Hi Yong HL,
I agree with you that the a e i o u don't apply all the time. My son gave up explaining to me liao. HaHaHa.
There's a 口诀 on pg 32 of P1A Textbook (Normal Chinese) on 调号/ tone mark which is very useful. I was surprised my P1 son could rattle it off and he said it was taught by his kindergarten teacher.
有 a 不放过 (e.g. tone mark is on \"a\" in jiao and \"zao\"
无 a 找 o e
i u 并列标在后 (when i u are together, the tone mark is on the last vowel. Examples: In \"hui\", the tone mark is on \"i\" as it's the last vowel. In \"liu\", the tone mark is on \"u\")
单个韵母不必说 (if there's only one vowel, it's always on that vowel)
The P1 textbook did not elaborate but I found these explanations in the SAP publisher ”小一高级华文课文字词手册 so have shared above.
By the way, I LOVE to buy assessment books too and big thankyou to Janet_lee88 and Plum Cake for the generous sharing in the forums! I'm definitely more excited about the books than my P1 son! :boogie:
:celebrate: Cheers to all mommies addicted to purchase of assessment books! Getting an ROI from them is another big ??? :rotflmao: -

I love to buy things...now that I have no need to go shopping much as a SAHM, my attention is on the kids and the enjoyment and satisfaction derived from buying useful assessment books.

For Chinese, my advice is to be careful with the answers provided at the back, esp EPH ones. For Chinese, I like 黄海君 and 蔡云飞. -

加油! You sure can do it and your DD will know that mummy is putting a lot of effort & love with her too  :celebrate:
My 2 DDs are 3 years apart and I will face the same scenario when DD2 enters P1 next year..guess, by then I also need a lot of adjustments  -

My gal is not 7 yet as she is a year end bb...she is still very playful. Needs to motivate and encourage her to do her work confidently...as I always tell her, teacher in primary school doesn't have time to sit beside her and teach her one-to-one.

Good luck with your revision with your DD over the March holidays. Know what you mean, I've also neglected DD2 as I focussed on DD1 as she prepared for her P6 CA1. Let's 加油 together. :celebrate: -

for me, I thought my DS1 hanyupinyin with some 'silly' method.. I don't know the rule of hypy, so to make him memorize easily, and maybe fun for him. For example, when i am revising the first tone character with him, i asked him to move his arm horizontally. For second tone, move the arm a little bit down. And so on for the third and fourth tone... So far so good with this silly method.. hehe
Hi allseasons,
I like your 'silly' method of teaching HYPY. Very innovative & most importantly, it's fun & the kids will definitely remember it.

Looks like all of us are doing some work with our kids over the March holidays...keke. All the best with your 'tuning'.

Tinkerbelle, hehee... it's so 'silly', sometimes DS1 laughed when I asked his the pinyin.. cos he needed to move his arm... But I don't know if this method will be aplicable to my DS2...
Janet and Limchen, I also like to buy assessment books. But we have so many already, I am afraid my sons can't finish them or I don't have enough time to ask them to do... So either to make my sons work hard or I have to work hard too.. To all mummy who love to buy assessment books: 加油 :celebrate: -

This March will be crucial to brush up daughter's work especially my older one's weaker areas. Son last day of school for term 1 today...2moro parent-teacher meeting. His form teacher told the class to work hard and play hard as term 2 will be tougher.Tinkerbelle, hehee... it's so 'silly', sometimes DS1 laughed when I asked his the pinyin.. cos he needed to move his arm.
