No, but generally, my ds'school doesn't refer to the textbooks to teach Math. The kids were told that textbooks are for daddies' & mummies' reference, in school the teachers will show them the workings on whiteboard, test them mental sums, etc...

if that is the case, the kids will have to bring notebooks to copy down the workings so they can refer for revision?

Not really, the kids will have homework from workbooks. They'll have enough practice and the teachers will correct any mistakes they find.
