Raffles Girls' Primary

MummySTay:
The p4 subject banding slides are uploaded in the school's website. Go check it out.
Only recall banding for HCL whereby the E and F girls were put together with the GEPpers. Don't know if they will still carry on with that though.Luanee:
Btw is there a subject-based thing from P4 onwards? Such as they will group girls who are stronger in certain subjects together or what? -

As far as PSLE is concerned, HCL is only useful if you intend to use the bonus points for admission to a SAP secondary school. If you have no intention of applying for a SAP school and you think that taking HCL would be an added burden on your girl, then there's no harm dropping HCL.
Not kaypoh. I welcome all constructive input. I was thinking about letting her drop hcl in school but asking her tutor to teach her at hcl level. Does that make sense? Can share more about the advantages of doing hcl? Thanks!
The other advantage of taking HCL in primary school is that your dd's foundation will be there when she takes HCL in secondary school. But your plan to have the tutor coach her at HCL is good, bec she'll be doing Chinese at a higher level without the stress of taking the exam. And when she goes to secondary school she'll be ready to tackle HCL. -
Thanks, jtoh, for sharing.
The extra 1 to 3 points would certainly come in handy should one want to apply to SAP schools, like NYGH. Also because of the exposure to the language at a higher level, the children tend to encounter fewer problems in their Mother Tongue.
The other advantages are more for taking the subject at secondary level, like eligibility for 2 bonus points for admission into a junior college. -
Many thanks, jtoh and MummySTay. Your insights are invaluable.
My dd dislikes to "bei" which I think may start to be necessary from p5 onwards if she continues with hcl. She also lacks interest in the language so I haven’t the heart to force her. Guess I am no tiger mom. Even if she continues with hcl, she would need to be top something % before she gets the extra 3 points right? I think to her, the 3 points isn’t worth the effort. Will discuss with her again when she is not playing… -

Point system:
Pass - 1 point
Merit - 2 points
Distinction - 3 points -

Hi, to DD, the papers were generally ok, except Science. I think she made more mistakes there. Hopefully, the class will perform just as well or better than previous years. DD is hoping more classmates will join her at RGS next year. :xedfingers:moonee:
Hi Luanee, I am reporting to P6. Thanks.
Hi, ur girl in p6 today? How did u find the exams?
The girls are all so close to one another. They are most likely going to have a big bawling session on graduation day. Gotta prepare more tissues.
so your dd already got in to RGS via DSA? -
Is Band1 mark 85? Heard one P3 class’ english 31/38 got band1, so impressive…

Yes band 1 is 85 and above. I think most rgps girls are strong in englishIs Band1 mark 85? Heard one P3 class' english 31/38 got band1, so impressive...

So besides class E and F, how are the other classes grouped? Is it random?
My dd is so disappointed she got band 2 for HCL. I told her it is tough coz the total mark is 25. So pro rate to 100% every error u make is going to multiply by 4. So let’s just aim for the normal chinese hee. -
KSP:
Thanks ksp. All along i thot must get band 1 above 85 in normal mt to qualify.
Luanee/aqeqiq, to be selected for HMT the following year the student has to get at least an \"A\" (or 75) for MT NOT HMT.... this is what i understand for the school http://rgps.asknlearn.com/webshare/sharing/web/Parent%27s_Hdbook%2710a.pdf%20/url
