Didn’t know they put subject strength in same class, I will double check with DS. DS told me they kind of mix the student as his P6 friends with about same T-Score all over different classes. Even his class also have large range of T-Score.

But I am quote sure there will be a musical chair when S2 go to S3.

I can tell you it is a different ball game in S1, can throw away the T-Score. Most score will drop and slowly improve year end or some earlier. DS say many higher T-Score non CHS Pri boys even fail exam.

DS Maths and Science, I am quite happy. His other non maths/science subjects, I am not so happy.

Oh, your DS is S1-7 in 2012, did he get A* for Science?

      DS is S1-7 in 2011. S2-7 in 2012.

Yea, in sec 1, standards are raised, especially for the languages, since it’s not a subject in which you can mete out a result by burning the midnight oil, memorising mountains of content, the night before. But as you go along, I believe that there should be marked improvement. Erm for the classification of classes, I’m not exactly clear about how the system works. It seems to be minimal at best and I really doubt there is a fine distinction between the classes, if at all. The only class which I really consider not ‘mainstream’ is the sports class.

Yes, students will be involved in overseas immersion trips. For most students, it will be in sec 3, in which all students will be encouraged to sign up for an overseas immersion programme. There’s quite a spectrum of choices available, from Cambodia to UK and China as well. Students in aesthetic CCAs and sports CCAs (sec 1s and sec 2s included) also get to travel frequently to partake in overseas performances or training sessions with peers abroad, all of which promises a bountiful learning experience. Student leaders from all levels get to travel on service trips too. Lastly, students in the school-based SAP scholarship programme (not the MOE one) also get to travel to China after the EOYs.

llbros545 : Will students get to learn Math Olympiad like in primary school? Is it based on voluntarily basis or teacher’s selection?

Yes, all students are given the option of taking part in SMO and attending the SMO training sessions. However, I remember the teacher having a list of students recommended to participate in the SMO. I am also not sure if there is a cap on the amount of students that can take part. On the other hand, participation in Science Olympiads are based fully on grounds of merit.

I understand that those who are in the DSA or sports CCA can choose to be in the sports class. They will play the respective sports during PE period, and their curriculum is slightly different from the mainstream class. This arrangement is also to allow remedial class to be conducted should the student missed the class during competition period. Anyone has DS in this sports class? How is it compared to the normal class?

No, not everyone in Sport CCAs are offered a place in the Sports Class. Only those high-ability students who performed well during the CCA trials or those who DSAed in via sports are entitled. Yes, the curriculum is slightly different. Students in the sports class have to come to school at pretty unearthly hours, in my opinion, to have morning training sessions. Most times, they will also not partake in morning assembly with the rest of the school. After the intensive morning training sessions, they will then return to classes for lessons as per normal. Training then resumes in the afternoons. From what I see, the average school day for a Sports Class student is usually longer than one in the mainstream.

llbros545 : Do you think MEP students can cope with CCA and Math Olympiad or Science Olympiad involvement?

Also, do sec 1s have CA1 in Feb?
