this is what my niece said so too....when she saw my gal 's HCL assignments and exam papers.
But RGS Chinese is super easy!
Not much homework too. -

Maybe your niece and MandyMummy's source move in different circles. So some want As, some don't want. :rotflmao:
Haha......or perhaps Mandymummy refers to RI, not RGS....gals more KS ??Augmum:
Most of the Raffles students are only hoping for a decent pass in HCL, very few people want to ace it. So not many taking tuition for HCL unless they are desperate for a pass in Yr 4.
Oh really ?? But this is NOT what i have heard fr my niece fr RGS who had taken her HCL this yr ( yr 5 next yr ).
She told me that practically every1 she knows take HCL tuition as RGS HCL std is low ( is she who said it, not me horr)
and they are afraid of not getting an \"A \"in HCL O lvl exam, hence better to have more coverage.

I wouldn't say our chinese is super easy, i would say it's only average. But most people who chose RGS is cos they simply don't get Chinese so it's better to pick Eng Sch over other Chi Schs like NYGH/DHS/cannot remember. This explains why our Chi standard is lower. We do have plenty of students from China though.MandyMummy:

So most of them will prefer to spend more time on other subjects, especially those in RA, rather than focusing on HCL for O level. The %A for O level HCL is below national average a few years back. Dunno whether they managed to pull up the standard or not.Augmum:

Anybody wants to share what CCA they are looking at next year?

My dd is interested on below CCAs. Would appreciate if anyone can advise what are the trial requirements and her chances of being selected :
1) Dance - International (She was in modern dance in pri school)
2) Chinese Drama (no experience but is interested)
3) English Drama (no experience but is interested. Heard v competitive)
4) Handbell (grade 5 piano and grade 3 theory)
5) Strings (no experience but is interested)
6) guitar
7) choir
netball (plays basketball for leisure)
From the training schedule available at RGS website, quite a number of training falls on Fri (coincides with 3rd language). Is this schedule applicable for 2012? -
ms_lim:
No the schedule is quite outdated. Looks like she has pretty cool choices! For dance they want ppl who can learn dance steps very fast. Eng Drama is super competitive:( Chinese Drama i'm not too sure what they look out for though. Handbells, banana can help with thatChoco05:

Strings definitely needs experience. I would have gone for strings but i didn't take grade exams so i figured out they wouldn't recognise me._.
Netball requires height element(so does bball). -

My dd is also considering below merit CCAs as well :
1) Editorial Board
2) Debate
3) Robotics
Will you be able to share your experience? Frankly speaking, I am unsure if she can manage with 1 core + 1 merit CCA.
