Minister, please substantiate your claims (every school is a good school)? Not until I can see every pri school is producing the similar PSLE result with a similar spread from 200-280+, I'm totally unconvinced! The same for sec school. :skeptical:

Say if the result does not mean anything. How did you define a good school?

Please help us to understand \"every school is a good school\" better! Thank you
        AceTutors123:

“Every School [is] a Good School” – as highlighted by Minister Heng in his speech.

What do you think about this?

Melodies... :snuggles: :hugs: ... I know how you feel. I've been feeling this for 2 years. I read HSK's speech. He has STOPPED saying that every school is a good school NOW. He is mapping the way towards Every School a Good School. He wants to work towards that vision.

Many of our children have been hurt by the system as it was. Mine included... even though... I think I was largely able to rescue him and put him in the top 5% of his school... so maybe I am not the best person to advise people to forgive and move on. Many many were a lot more hurt than me and Little Boy. I know that. Because of whom I am and what I am capable of, Little Boy has largely come through unscathed.

If you can't forgive and move on, I completely understand. It's just that in HSK's speech he has given a promise for a better and more loving educational system. If you can bring yourself to forgive, then I think the vision he maps out in his speech is worth supporting.

HSK took on a hefty portfolio. I think he and his team are only now beginning to find their feet and able to craft a vision to fix the ills of the system that was. The system needs some time to adjust. Maybe we can withhold judgment TEMPORARILY and see how MOE's further actions pan out in support of HSK's vision.

Hi Chen, I thought I have heard this for quite a while without realizing the MOE has come up something to work towards the vision of Every School a Good School.

BTW, I bought your book and I just realized that my dd was reading the book without my knowledge (the one - how to motivate your child to want to study) and she was reading chapter 6 and told me it is a good book and she enjoyed it!(she is in P3 now) :faint:

Do you think it is ok for her to read? :nailbite:

            Thanks for the advice.

After all, the result means everything and should be part of the indicator to access the school.
U are saying u expecting a school with a COP OF 230 to have the same % of quality passes as another one with 260 :scratchhead:
If that ever happens, I think the 230 one is d**n f :censored: king good!

No la, I'm expecting the same value added to every spectrum of students regardless which school you are from.

If top students got into sch A, instead of excelling, she can't perform, the school A is not helping to add value lo..

If poor students got into another school B, the student excels, then school B add value..

                Make sense? :?

That would be a bit difficult now that they do away with banding.

Here you are about "what is the banding’ and ‘why they need abolish’ so taht they can achieve the goal of every school to be a good school in delivering a student-centric, values-driven education.

                        ------------------------------------------------

MOE Abolishes Secondary School Banding System
                        13 Sep 2012, 4.54PM

A string of reforms was announced at MOE’s annual workplan seminar, which includes the abolishment of the secondary school banding system aimed at getting schools and parents to look beyond grades.

The banding system categorises schools into nine bands based on the performance of their students at the GCE ‘O’ Level in the preceding year, and has led to keen and sometimes unhealthy competition amongst schools. MOE will also remove the Masterplan of Awards (MoA) and reduce the number of school awards from 2014.

Instead, MOE will recognise schools that do well in areas such as encouraging all-round learning, character development and values. $55 million has been allocated over the next five years for schools to develop unique niche programmes in non-academic areas and encourage every school to find its own path to excellence. This is in line with MOE’s efforts to enable every school to be a good school in delivering a student-centric, values-driven education.

Most school principals interviewed by press welcome the changes. Parents were however more unsure as removing information about a school’s academic performance made things "inconvenient" and unofficial rankings would still emerge.
