Rainbow say my son dun require SLT just yet :(.

You mentioned that you son cannot comprehend who, what, how and why questions right? if so, then he will need a SLT. My son is also seeing a SLT from Leapfrog for the same issue.

my son can answer;- who is this. what is this.go where, what you wan?. the how & why he cannot..

but i wish he can answer in longer sentences.

i oso feel tat , my son need SLT. but rainbow say since the teacher is able to work on this area, so dun need SLT unless the teacher is unable to do so..

:-([/quote]What your son need is language development. But in EIPIC like Rainbow, there are many other kids who doesn't even say a word at all. Hence their resident speech therapist will naturally be attending to them first cos your son at least is verbal.

This same thing is happening in my son's EIPIC as well. Their SLT feels my son is doing okay, there are other non verbal child required her attention more. But actually my son also have difficultly putting sentences together and expressing out.

But instead of saying my EIPIC no good, I cut some budget, tighten my belt, let him go for pte weekly speech therapy. Pte SLT did ask me if i want to do it 2x per week but I dun have such money, instead, I managed to get myself enrolled in KKH Rehab SLT once per month. Well its at least better than nothing. And I shared what I learnt at SLT with EIPIC teachers so they , together with me, reinforce it.

Like I mentioned to you last time, if u want change, want things to be better, we need to put in effort too.

Its 1 hour. $41 or $44 after subsidy. The KKH SLT will write down a homework list for you for you to practise at home with your son.

A lot of home practise to be done for them to improve.

You need to understand that there is no magic bullet. All EIPIC centers, no matter where you go, need parents' support and commitment to make things work.

Put in the efforts to make things work to your advantage, rather than to succumb to the system and constraints and continue to be helpless.

                Good luck.

                    Helplessmum,

Even K2 and some P1 NT kids got problem handling higher order analytical Thinking skill comprehension, let alone your son so young now in Nursery. Don't worry too much. At home just do your part to teach / guide him. In time to come, he'll get it.

to help your child practise basic Comprehension skills at home -
perhaps you can read out a simple story to him first.

At the end after reading, it is followed by a very simple question, just to test if he's able to comprehend, after what he had heard. It can be a very basic / simple \"what\", \"how\", \"when\", \"where\", \"why\" question. But only start with ONE simple question first. If you practise with your son consistently every day, slowly gradually your son will be able to grasp Comprehension skills naturally. Your son can't read now. But you can read to him, you're his mother. In the process of doing, you're also building up son-mother relationship. Your son need your maternal support and commitment, to make things work. Put in effort to make things work. Do not succumb always relying 100 % on Rainbow to teach your son everything.

                    example: -
you may goto page 15 of this book, take a look at ONE simple question asked :-
