Here are some common sources of noise and potential solutions:

Construction Noise: Construction noise can be disruptive, especially if it occurs during early morning or late evening hours. If possible, try to speak with the construction company or local authorities about adhering to noise ordinances. Using earplugs or noise-canceling headphones can help reduce the impact of construction noise.

MRT or Traffic Noise: Living near a busy road or public transportation route can lead to constant traffic noise. Soundproofing your home with thick curtains, double-glazed windows, or weatherstripping can help reduce the noise. Using white noise machines or fans in bedrooms can also provide some relief.

Proximity to Playground: While living near a playground can be convenient for children, it may lead to noise issues. Establish quiet hours for the playground, if possible, or speak to your local community association about noise control measures.

Neighborhood Pets: Neighbors’ pets, including birds and roosters, can be a source of noise. It’s best to approach your neighbors and discuss the issue politely. Sometimes, pet owners may not even be aware that their animals are causing disturbances. If necessary, local ordinances or homeowners’ association rules may come into play.

Noise from Within: Noise within the home can also be a problem, such as loud appliances or family members with different sleep schedules. Consider using noise-reducing measures like door draft stoppers, soft-close cabinet hardware, and maintenance of noisy appliances.

Use White Noise Machines: White noise machines can help drown out other disruptive sounds and create a more soothing sleep environment. They can be particularly useful for infants and young children.

Earplugs and Noise-Canceling Devices: Earplugs or noise-canceling headphones can be effective for blocking out external noise. These are particularly useful for light sleepers.

Room Soundproofing: If noise is a constant issue, you might consider soundproofing specific rooms, especially bedrooms, with acoustic panels or insulation.

Community Involvement: Get involved in your local community association or neighborhood groups to discuss and address noise concerns collectively.

Remember that communication with neighbors and finding amicable solutions is often the first step in addressing noise problems. It’s important to approach these conversations politely and with empathy. If noise issues persist and significantly affect your family’s sleep and well-being, you may also want to consult with local authorities or legal resources to explore options for resolving the problem within the bounds of local noise ordinances.

It is very helpful. I thought some of you will suggest to change window to a soundproof one. Haha. It will be good if u can get used to the noise then u can save money and will be less frustrated. Wearing a cancelling head phone is on the trend too. But my concern is, I can't hear my baby when he call me at night. Anyway, just to share, if you have noise issues and can't change your window or you do not want to change your window but still want to soundproof, you might want to consider this company, Magnetite Singapore. They can reduce noise reduction up to 70% and no need to change window too. So for HDB houses, there is no need any approval as there is no hacking, probably only drillings. This is their website https://magnetite.com.sg/ . I hope we all can have less noise in our environment so that we can be more focus on what we want to do and less stressful.
