our neighbor is currently renovating their home and unfortunately, my eldest son room facing there home... construction noise is hassle coz he isworking from home..

I tried changing curtains to thicker ones but he said not enough so he bougt better headphones costing $100+ 😰

If working at home i suggest u soundproof both windows and ceiling for better soundproofing in room...can do doors too but not necessary if not facing outside. Curtains dont really suppress much noise lah 😅

Why ?

Because every morning, around 6 am, got teenagers youth playing basketball, right underneath my mother's flat. And when the basketball bounced & hit the ground non stop continuously while the boys (youth) were playing , it was so loud and woke everybody up, from their morning sleep. Especially when u think u can sleep longer on a Sunday morning, here, the up & down bouncing ball wake u up suddenly

Oh dear...did u already raise this concern to the authorities? 6am too early to play basketball. What if one tenant/resident nearby work at night then sleeps daytime but always keep hearing basketball noises :roll:

Hello, parents, thanks for your reply. It is very helpful. I thought some of you will suggest to change window to a soundproof one. Haha. It will be good if u can get used to the noise then u can save money and will be less frustrated. Wearing a cancelling head phone is on the trend too. But my concern is, I can't hear my baby when he call me at night. Anyway, just to share, if you have noise issues and can't change your window or you do not want to change your window but still want to soundproof, you might want to consider this company, Magnetite Singapore. They can reduce noise reduction up to 70% and no need to change window too. So for HDB houses, there is no need any approval as there is no hacking, probably only drillings. I suddenly found myself so fortunate after reading the above posts. As staying in a high floor HDB building, there is no roosters crowing and even birds also not coming, birds want to stay on the trees below. This is a children playground downstairs but we cannot hear the screaming from kids. Can sleep peaceful on weekends morning.

Early mornings I get roosters crowing and Koels calling.

Evenings I get kids and maids screaming at the playground.

I’ve gotten used to these over the years. If it gets too noise in the evening, I will just close my patio doors.

What irritates me these days is a couple of new residents in our estate who do not believe in headphones or earpiece. I see them walking around the estate or at the exercise corner for their morning/evening exercise with their music blasting from their mobiles. Or they will be having a game of tennis and again they blast their music while playing.

What to do, just close my doors when they are out and about.

If is like past 11 pm onwards, inconsiderate people bring their foldable chairs downstairs your block to chit chat loudly or \" wash \" mahjong betting chips on a mahjong table loudly, or get drunk by beer lady and use microphone to sing songs late at night,

Like Chief, we hv chicken crows here that spare us fr setting our hp alarms. The rubbish truck regular rounds signals the time of morning for us to get going with our marketing. The passing of vehicles when neighbors sets out to work, etc.

Oh yuh. I forgot to mention that being awaken by chickens is definitely NOT as bad as being awaken by alarm clocks! For a while, someone in other units had an alarm go off at 6am and DOESN'T turn it off for hours. If murder is not a crime, the world would be a much quieter place

Recently we have works around our area too…once I noticed that it was really noisy when I couldn’t hear the other party properly during a phone conversation. I m not sure how long the works will take but seem quite some time already.

Daytime, we usually close the doors , windows…and it will be quiet. We are lucky as our bedroom windows are facing away from the noise.

Also, sometimes try get used to it may help a little

I’ve lived in quite a few noisy places, overseas mainly, but also in Singapore - opposite bus station, above bus stops, beside main roads, over playground, construction, chickens, mahjong games, crying children… If it’s due to inconsiderate behaviour of others, you could try to speak to them about limiting the noise, but some things are not within anyone’s control.

We just ignored them as best as we could, and got used to it. It did bother us occasionally, but it was not usually loud enough to drown out our conversation (which is our low bar). Try fans or other ways to create "white noise"? Use ear plugs or aircon when you really need quiet?

If u really cannot tahan the noise from your neighbour or from people downstairs your unit inspite of having talked to them before

And the noise is affecting you mentally, emotionally, Sorry, no choice, look for another place to shift out. But next time before u buy or rent another unit, check properly carefully this time esp. at different times of the day including eg. Past midnight whether got people come chit chatting in groups or gathered together for some social activities or play mahjong, downstairs your house.

If your house faces a 24 non stop Expressway of car traffic, then don't rent this place, since is non stop noisy

Urban life gets more complicated esp in compact Singapore. That’s one of many reasons why ppl choose to emigrate to bigger land & live far fr the maddening crowd for some peace & sanity.

Remind me of my days in downunder where I woke up to absolute silence in my dormitory when most hv gone for summer holidays. It was so beautiful to snuggle in. So, even in a big country, you’ll loath with some noise u’re just not comfortable with esp when ppl do strange things in the night to disrupt yr sleep. I just got myself earplugs.

Some ppl get used to noise & accept them easily hence noise becomes bkgrd noise. Some struggle daily as noise is major annoyance to their lives that it impacts them to the point of daily/regular insomnia.

Like Chief, we hv chicken crows here that spare us fr setting our hp alarms. The rubbish truck regular rounds signals the time of morning for us to get going with our marketing. The passing of vehicles when neighbors sets out to work, etc.

S’times it’s refreshing to go on holidays in countrysides. Just to regain some sanity & get a grip back to our lives.

Well, the place I stay around has some roosters. I don’t know if anyone is rearing them, but, well, they start crowing at 5am and pretty much through the day (no, roosters don’t just crow to wake you up). Gotten used to them already. I think they are probably kept by some people because sometimes their crowing seems muffled like they are being kept in a house. I’m used to it already.
