Let's share the bench-mark of a ONE-SCOOP ice-cream than we know how much we have progressed... But it's not just that, how you make it is also important. Some of the cheaper brands have more air in them, which makes them less dense than the more expensive brands. You can tell from the texture. Also, because the cheaper stuff has less fat, they need to add other ingredients like emulsifiers to try to get the right consistency. So, you may be paying less for the ice-cream, but you're also paying for a lot more air and other stuff that really shouldn't be in ice-cream!

See the attached URL for an interesting article on the science of ice-cream making! http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/articles/20050810/Feature1.asp

MummyThreeStreams

Reply to Calling Ice-Cream Lovers - One-Scoop Ice-cream on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 01:36:16 GMT

DH, DD and I go to these two places, although we don't DD any icecream as yet, she is too young

Venezia Gelateria (Bukit Timah)
Fifth Avenue, Guthrie House
Opening Hours
Daily: 8.30am – 10.30pm

Single scoop $3.30

Ice Cream Chefs
No. 12 Jalan Kuras
(Upper Thomson Road)
Opening Hours
Daily: 1pm - 10pm

Single scoop $3.50

duriz

Reply to Calling Ice-Cream Lovers - One-Scoop Ice-cream on Fri, 19 Nov 2010 12:27:18 GMT

Just took my DS to Tom’s Palette at Shaw Centre(the one near Suntec) on Hari Raya Haji.
