ADHD or Autism.

:?

Heard sugar will cause hyperactivity. Is it true?

Well, a lot of formulas have added flavours/sweeteners which doesn't do anything healthwise other than get the kids to like it and hence the parents to continue buying it.

Processed sugar can cause kids to get hyper, it doesn't cause the condition \"hyperactivity\". So of course kids who suffer from hyperactivity, we don't want to make their condition worse by giving them sugary sweet stuff that will get them even more hyped up. Sugar causes what we call a sugar high and the horror of that is that their energy level spikes up suddenly, giving them this sudden burst of energy and once it burns out, the drop in energy level is also very sudden (kinda like a balloon loosing air - whoosh!). Then all of a sudden the kids feels really REALLY tired (who wouldn't after all that bouncing around) but they don't understand why they are suddenly so drained and it makes them cranky which leaves you with a tired, cranky, uncooperative child on your hands.

As for kids with ADHD & Autism, it's not so much what is added to the formula but milk itself. Milk contains a protein called casien that these kids have trouble processing. What happens is the casien is not digested properly and leaked into their bloodstream. Blood circulates and at some point will reach the brain. The casien seems to cause some kind of chemical reaction - a sort of short circuit in the brain, and this actually causes or enhances the ADHD/Autistic behaviour.

Gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and some other grains) is another big culprit so for parents who want to help their kids with ADHD/Autism, I strongly recommend researching the GFCF Diet and giving it a try.

Hope this info was useful.

Amberz

Reply to Too much chemicals in our milk powder and child development on Wed, 05 May 2010 05:33:02 GMT

Do you think the contents in the formulated milk powder will worsen the conditions?
