AFAIK from being involved in dsa coding application process, can't speak for every school, the impression I get is that usually the schools offer coding/infocomm areas should have some teachers in charge, and set their own coding/computational selection tests and have their own additional criterias (e.g. interviews, portfolio evaluations) to evaluate the students.
Shouldn't be similar to sports situation at all, IMHO.

Only after passed the first cut of the Sports coach, then will move up to stage 2 : where the Principal / VP of that DSA school will interview the shortlisted candidate, recommended by the Sports trainer (coach).

Hence, favoritism / prejudice / biasedness can come in, seep through via this Sports coach, or via any of those people placed in charge of audition the DSA applicants, for Performance Arts.

Example

If u are a pet of the Sports coach, then definitely, u will be highly favored upon, highly regarded and will be strongly recommended to the VP / P. Already, u have a clear cut, distinct upper hand advantage.


In contrast,
if you are not the pet of that Sports trainer, Sorry lah.

How to overcome this ?
Unless …

on that day of Sports trial, more than one person is also present there to observe (witness) the trial taking place and also allowed to have a say, in whether to recommend or don’t recommend the short listed applicant, to the next stage. Otherwise, everything just rely, depend on one person solely. That is, the Sports coach.
