She was invited to 2 trials, out of the 3 schools that we had applied to (ironically, it was the ‘safe’ option, ie with a much higher COP, that didn’t offer a trial). The DSA route is, unfortunately, always competitive. Plus, her natural attributes (height, build, etc) put her in a disadvantageous position from the start. At the end of the day, DSA is always a good but can’t be counted on option as it’s unlikely for schools to offer more than a handful CO / WL per sport.

Her current school also offers the same CCA; it just wasn’t part of her earlier DSA options.

floppy

Reply to Jetstar starting direct Singapore – Broome flights on Thu, 04 Apr 2024 00:00:22 GMT

Floppy

Did u not try via dsa sports? A lot of careless mistakes and a lot of marks given away needlessly during practice paper. When she's good, she's very good; when she's bad, she's very bad. For me personally, it's frustrating knowing that you can have all the answers and knowledge but still can't score well in an exam. I think not having enough 'real' exams (mid year / EOY) to 'practice' before PSLE and disrupted lessons / school due COVID had a negative effect on her cohort. I think kids today lack the exam smartness and exam readiness that we used to be drilled in.

That said, every cloud has a silver lining. The 'suitable' school that we opted for, turns out to be a very good choice
Now earmarked as student leader, a member of her CCA's upcoming NSG team, and given ample opportunities to be challenged academically, she's surprising settling in very well. I doubt she would have the same number of opportunities if she had gotten into her earlier choices as she would probably be a small fish among the bigger fishes. She has now put aside the PSLE disappointment and looking at her options after O Level

P/S: I think no one really cares about Broome flights :rotflmao:

Good attitude and response to the situation. Sometimes (the perceived) less is more...

On the exams, I think there is some level of practice, mock or real, where you pick up the bulk of the low hanging fruit. Others may benefit from more practice when you start to get certain types of problems correct at a higher frequency (may shift things on the margin). However, I think the bigger swings come from losing your nerve / not controlling your emotions, and the real thing is probably the only spot where this can truly be tested. In hindsight, the above is one of the better experiences a student can have before PSLE (screw up and subsequently learn how to manage yourself). I'm not advocating for more exams, but I get what is being said.

Other kids will just be more dialed in at a later age, and that's OK too.

SG_KP1

Reply to Jetstar starting direct Singapore – Broome flights on Wed, 03 Apr 2024 17:36:36 GMT

MyPillow\" post_id=\"2131945\" time=\"1712114867\" user_id=\"70594:

hahaha, first affair right?
2nd or 3rd will be less tired & better adjustment

My 2nd is going to be worst.
