<![CDATA[SPERS tests Maths and English for Sec 1 admission]]>Hi there,


Does anyone know where to go for tuition to help prepare for SPERS-Sec admission test?

I read from Moe website that for Maths Paper, no calculator allowed. That’s different format from Psle.

Paper 1 - 30 mins only and 34 item in mcq. (so 1 qn to take less than 1 min)
Paper 2 - 1hr 45 mins and 30-35 items
Short-answer questions: 20 items
Open-ended questions: 10 to 15 items
For both short-answer and open-ended questions, srudents to show the method of solution clearly by writing their working steps in the spaces provided in addition to providing the final answers.

Generally, open-ended questions require longer and more complex method of solutions as compared
to short-answer questions.

Anyone know where to obtain sample paper for the test?

Not exactly a response to your question, but I recently published this book which you may find useful. I have previously posted on KSP (very old member!) but I don’t know if my old posts can be retrieved. This book is the result of many years of experience with Third Culture Kids.

As far as I know, there are no sample papers available.

The content of the SPERS test should be the same as PSLE. Just explain this to the tutor, and that calculators are not allowed.

Even though calculators are not permitted, that's probably to even the playing field for kids who haven't learned to use the calculators, or are unable to get hold of one of the approved models. The level of difficulty of the questions should be similar to PSLE, just with numbers that are easier to compute.

Showing the working is a way for markers to give method marks even if the final answer is wrong because of carelessness etc.

You seem have to posted multiples of the same post - can you delete the others so that answers will be in the same place?
