Other than that, I think swimming and cycling are life skills that should be taught from young.

Getting kids into sports can be real hard these days. I’ve tried to get my little guy interested in a bunch of stuff but so far, nothing’s really stuck.

Swimming was ok, but it’s easy to get sucked into the “competitive” aspect of the sport and lose track of the main purpose of the sport, which is to encourage survival skills. I started my son at the age of 4 years old, and by 5, he was swimming like a fish, learnt all the strokes up to butterfly, and got all his swimming certificates. Then I had to stop it because the competitive nature was too great. When he was in primary 4, I started him with fencing, but found the sport a bit too expensive for my taste so I quit after 2 years. Then in Secondary 1, I started him with taekwondo and he seemed to enjoy it very much.
