The Author
Sharon Khoo is herself a TCK, and the mother of TCKs. She has a BA (Jurisprudence) from Oxford and an MA (Library and Info Studies) from Loughborough, and is now a freelance copyeditor.

This is the personal project that I’ve been working on for the past year! The book won’t be printed till Dec (available from me), and the ebook formats will hopefully be ready in Jan (available through Amazon and Google Play). I haven’t decided on prices yet! Since it’s self-published, I don’t really have a promotional plan - anyone with experience in this? Suggestions would be appreciated. I don’t expect this to be a hugely popular book, but hope it will help the families still overseas, or planning to go overseas.

I went to the UK for undergrad studies, as did my husband and one daughter. We all enjoyed our time. My husband and I did find returning a little harder than my daughter did, but we didn’t have as much practice as she did, and times have changed!

Returning is slightly less challenging for 20-somethings because they have more memories of Singapore compared to younger kids. And nowadays (compared to my time 40 yrs ago), uni students travel back to Singapore more often and it’s easier to keep in touch with their Singapore friends on social media. But transitions are always challenging, no matter your age - the only thing I can say is that every subsequent transition gets a bit easier if you’ve learned how to to cope. So the 10th transition should be easier than the 1st!

I lived overseas for many years, and National Day always brought thoughts of Singapore to mind. We would try our best to find a way to watch the NDP online (not always easy to find in those earlier days) and talk about Singapore with our children. For those of you living overseas, have a look at this list to bring back fond (or not-so fond?) memories!

If you have children with you, who don’t really remember much about Singapore, this list is a great resource for family conversations! Share your memories and help them get to know Singapore. With 60 items on the list, there’s plenty to keep you going for the whole year!

My idea is to buy padded envelopes and stick on these labels, and they can posted in normal post boxes. And yes, I’ll have to add this cost to the price of the book.

At least that’s how some online bookstores like Epigram do it. Alternatively, you can go down to Singpost to mail each package out individually, i think they charge by weight.
