So lately, I’ve been noticing something interesting in our household — Chat GPT is slowly becoming a go-to tool, almost like how we used calculators in school for Math. Only now, it’s being used for everything: writing, Science, even helping my kid “understand” Chinese compositions!

Don’t get me wrong — I think it’s pretty amazing. The way it explains complex topics, gives suggestions, and even helps brainstorm ideas is honestly better than some tuition sessions (and free!). But it also raises a few big questions for me:

Are our kids still learning to think independently, or are they outsourcing too early?

Is it realistic (or even fair) to expect schools to keep up with this tech?

Should we be teaching our kids “AI literacy” the same way we teach them computer skills?

I’m not for banning AI — it’s clearly part of their future. But I am wondering how we, as parents, can help them use it responsibly without losing critical thinking skills along the way.

Would love to hear your experiences:

Are your kids using Chat GPT or similar tools?

Have you set any rules or guidelines?

Do you feel it’s helping their learning, or making them overly dependent?

Looking forward to hearing how other families are navigating this new space. It really feels like we’re all figuring it out in real time.

— DigitalDinosaur (because my kid says I still double-click too slowly )

Likely there will be more coming along
time has change and we as parents need to adapt and help kids to change with the times too

I had my 5-year-old try out ChatGPT as soon as voice mode was released, and he absolutely loved it. It’s clear the future is here.

I also found it interesting to get to know the masterplan from @<bdi>tjunjie2025</bdi> . It totally makes sense.

There also have been kids’ products with built-in ChatGPT as well. For example, https://www.amazon.sg/dp/B0FGK3J7SH (not ad)

yeah its event in the masterplan 2030 for MOE as mentioned here.
https://www.stbbsg.com/post/moe-s-edtech-masterplan-2030-what-it-means-for-tutors-and-tuition-centers-in-singapore

We need to know how to integrate AI with learning, not to abuse it or misuse it.
With proper use I believed that it can greatly enhance learning and it is not just plain memorizing but a higher level in learning for the kids.

Sounds like your Sec 2 son has a pretty healthy approach already.

We’ve told him it’s okay to use it for support, but not to rely on it blindly. Like you said, it’s all about how they use it.

I do think schools need to start teaching AI literacy — this isn’t going away anytime soon. Might as well help them use it smartly, right?
