I have three kids and my first has drank extra BM when the second one is born and my first and second ones drank the extra BM when the third one is born. My son was 5 and in K1 then. Every morn, I would put a little bm to mix with son’s Milo. He didn’t get any cough or flu when he started school in Jan. <br /><br />Usually he would have cough or running nose when school reopens. This went on for about 9 months until he found on that ‘oily white substance’ was bm and refused to drink anymore. His immunity was really strong.</p>

She was about 18-20 mths then when she also felt the taste kinda differ. Now whenever I giving DD2 BM she want to suckle too must doesn’t want to drink. So she’d only suckle for about 1 min. I miss those time when i could feed her for 15 mins… haiya… <br /><br /><br />When DD1 was on exclusive BM she almost never fall sick before. As she was quite fussy with food, my PD suggest she takes formula milk. Now i hv lots of BM, my PD also encourage me to give her my milk. I’m now mixing with formula to cover the BM taste. She wouldn’t want pure BM now. haha… ironical when she had drunk it for coming 2 years.</p>

Yes, by all means, feed your DD1 the BM.  Being a mobile, active child, she'd burnt off the fat in no time, yet retaining more nutrients than formula milk!  <img src="https://forum.kiasuparents.com/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f609.png?v=f4f27f6278e" class="not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji--wink" style="height:23px;width:auto;vertical-align:middle" title=":wink:" alt="😉" /> <br /><br /><br />Just to share my personal experience, for DD1 and DD2, I was actually tandem feeding till DD1 self-weaned at 2.5 years which meant she was BF during my pg and 6 months tandem feeding.  After that, she still gets BM in a cup when she wants that.  Never quite took to formula and we switched her to fresh milk at 3 without issues.<br /><br />DD2 refuses to be BF as soon as we fell pg with DD3.  Even now, DD3 would want to suckle at bedtime.  She's coming 4 soon and I must say that even though she's a premie, she holds out very well against the virus that goes around the childcare.  Breastmilk? BUT…it’s still far more nutritious than formula. I read somewhere long time ago that it’s ok to do that (ie feed BM to older child). <br /><br /><br />And also fully agree that BM should not be the only source of nutrients for older kids - solids should be taking on this role already. <br /><br />Take it as added booster - surely it’ll be such a crime to waste those precious drops of milk.</p>

They seldom fall sick and are very healthy.  The only time they had formula milk was for the night feeds during the first two days after delivery.  <br /><br />It’s only unhealthy if your kids are drinking breastmilk ONLY, to the exclusion of all other foods.  Children this age should be having 3 proper meals a day, with milk in between for "tea break" (morning and afternoon) and bedtime at night.<br /><br />Don’t let anyone (yes, not even doctors… They are not nutritionists, are they?!!) convince you that your milk is not good enough for your babies.</p>

She didn’t give her children BM when they were born. She told them it’s ice cream since frozen and they happily took it.<br /><br />By the time DS came along, I was no longer that diligent - decided to let the body adjust the milk production based on the demand.</p>

How can add more formula to it? the BM is already good enough leh.<br /><br />My 2 boys also about 2.5 years apart. Bfed DS2 for 2 years, when I had spare, I would give DS1 BM instead of formula. Didn't bother to freeze etc - figure my kids should only enjoy fresh BM.
