Feeling a bit stressed as my daughter will be starting Sec 4 Express upcoming year. She struggles academically and budget is quite tight for in-person tuition.

May I ask if any parents can recommend useful online resources (e.g. question banks, videos, online platforms) that helped your child prepare for O‑Levels, especially for students who learn better at their own pace?

Hello good evening,

I am a full time tutor myself. Just to share that you may like to search for the “smashing exams” series of guide books with practices for O Levels online.

I have used these books in several instances to pull up my students grades from C5 to an A2 within 2 months.

Of course there is no magic. The students themselves need to put in effort to memorise, study and practice the books.

Each book cost about $20+. It is definitely cheaper than engaging a tutor.

I was also looking around for Sec 4 English support recently, especially for O-Level writing.
One resource I came across was the community group on Facebook. They have some free materials that you can request from the admin! I think the materials they’re sharing is actually developed by an ex MOE teacher of 30 years.

I found their material quite useful because they don’t just give model essays to memorize, the material actually works on how to structure and develop the points.

Sometimes students keep doing more TYS, but the issue is actually an earlier weak foundation, method choice, or repeated careless pattern.

It is meant to help students find the weak link first, then practise more deliberately instead of just doing more papers blindly.

Separately, for free resources, Holy Grail and TYS explanations are still useful. I’d use those together with a short diagnostic so your daughter knows which topics to prioritise.

It’s a free site with the best possible resources your daughter can get her hands on. All the top students in schools use this site.

If she needs additional help, can consider tuition. Those low-cost 1-1 type, BUT the tutor will likely be someone who just completed o’lvls. Usually agar agar 25/hr. If need recommendation can dm me.
