Because the kindergarden mainly learning through playing.
3) the preparatory class was not only English but include maths as well.

then the reason i withdraw due to below
1) the size of class was quite big , think around 14-15.
2) Notice that weekday evening class not that efficient because of long day stay after Kindergarden. ( you can choose weekend, but i decided to withdraw and try others , haha)
3) no interaction with teacher, parents are not allowed to meet face to face with teacher. happen that once time sons told me the next week need to prepare \"show & tell\", i check their school bag didn't find any clues or message from teacher. what made me had a strong feeling to withdraw was my son update me in the next week class that teacher only pick the students had prepared. (!!!) i was wondering if the kids and parents are good in show & tell, then why must we enroll our kids?
I feel Mind stretcher more like tuition than enrichment.

Overall, i would rate the syllabus and worksheet moderate. Sadly, the given time slot (Sat morning) clashes with my kid's other activity.

For Kip McGrath, there wasn't such reference available. Instead the guy at the counter didn't quite convince me about their curriculum. He was saying there'd be computer exercises, and English. Then when I asked about Maths, he suggested that Maths \"can be done\" on alternating weeks. . So although their fees is lower than KR's, I wasn't so into this one. (maybe other outlets are better?)

So...I was just wondering, if parents here have other recommendations, preferably around Bt Panjang/Bt Timah area, that I can consider inquiring with?

TIA!! :rahrah:

LDmom

Reply to All About Primary One Readiness & Preparatory Courses on Mon, 06 Apr 2015 05:39:49 GMT

Anyone tried ‘I lOVE LEARNING’ at Westgate?

What I did when my kids were young was to have very general plans about what I thought they should be introduced at that stage, and find opportunities to work into our activities. It could be that we might be doing more Maths concepts for a period, and then move on to word recognition and phonics for another period, but it all got covered eventually. Your son may seem to be goofing off, but his attention may have been attracted by something that you can use to work some of your 'learning items' into while keeping his interest.

sharonkhoo

Reply to All About Primary One Readiness & Preparatory Courses on Mon, 01 Sep 2014 01:07:15 GMT

How to play the I spy game? Anyway, you can just read to her and show her letters and numbers around her at home, on signs etc. The more you point them out, the more familiar they will become. I don't think you need a class for this.

Also, kids develop at different rates, and at her age, not all kids are familiar with letters and numbers anyway. Even though I read to my kids a lot and raised them the same way, one of them read before 4yo without being taught, and the other only read at 6yo after I decided I needed to formally teach her (they didn't learn English in kindy as we were overseas). Yet the later reader is the one doing much better academically and both are keen readers (they are teenagers now). So there's no need to worry yet. Just show her how letters and numbers are all around and have meaning.

sharonkhoo

Reply to All About Primary One Readiness & Preparatory Courses on Tue, 19 Aug 2014 00:28:20 GMT

Hi Parents, my daughther will be in K1 next Yr, but it seems she still not so familiar with ALPHABETS / NUMBERS, staying @<bdi>east</bdi> area , any recommendation or affordable class that i can register her in.

:thankyou:

Nuroflite

Reply to All About Primary One Readiness & Preparatory Courses on Sun, 19 Jan 2014 09:03:51 GMT

I think starting should be as early as possible.

my 5yo is able to pick up reading by 3ish.. really a comforting thing for us. but 2yo is avoiding..
I bring them to The Tots' Classroom and apparently, for 5yo kids.. they have this course that teaches the kids 'Natural Reading'.
For my boy, reading came natural but I thought it is useful for a lot of mommies out there whose kids are struggling.

I'm enrolling my 2yo to the language class as soon as she turns 3.
